Traction control

Well I had an interesting situation. I followed a new Discovery up a steep grass hill in my basic 1989 Land Rover and the Discovery made it half way and began to slide all over. I put the power on and stormed passed no problem to the top.  Later on I mentioned this to the Discovery driver and he was mad as mad because he said the car would not let him drive it. The fancy traction control kept taking over.  My view, nothing quite like trusting you right foot.

Are we talking stability control ESP or traction control? ESP should be switched off in sticky situations as it has a habit of reducing power to the wheels, whilst traction control will brake spinning wheels to transfer torque to wheels with most traction.

But the question was, traction control on or off when using 4x4 off road?
