Same as last week I had to shoot a field the birds did not want  I looked at this area last week and they were going on the standing wheat and barley but I chose not to shoot  over standing crops  there is a grass field bordering the wheat and that was waste height  and thick but today it had been cut so I knew I could pull birds over to it from the standing crops and so that's how it went all afternoon the main bulk of birds did not want to pull off the line to the crops and it was only 100 yards to my right but i pulled enough over to the cut grass field  with the rotary the shooting was top notch in this wind end with a good bag but yet again would of had 3 figures  on the other field  picked 82 and lost 8

Would you had been happier by being in the right place and losing a fair proportion of your bag ?, or giving up the better spot and still manageing to get a nice lot of shooting , plus being able to drive to your chosen spot and pick up most , if not all your bag , I know what I would rather do , Well done on another very good bag :good:

I would 100%  rather set up on a field you can pick everything and drive across, I was just saying there was more on offer if I could of shot the main line 👍

Time wait for no one and before you know it the barley field will soon be brought down to size and you will be able to drive to where you think best , this is pay back time for all the slogging and humping the gear about .

Once the stubble shooting start , is it the end up your way of shooting over standing crops ?

It more or less is for us , we have got a good lot of Winter barley , this more or less finish as the Wheat start , this then take us into Spring barley , followed by rape , seed peas and then finishing up on the Beans , so once we start shooting on the first stubble we don't normally have to shoot on another standing crop , The Maize is cut by contractors and can give us some shooting in early September , this is a fair way off yet but you cannot stop time and before you know it the first shoot date will roll round . :drinks:
