The writing was on the wall. I retired last year as a full time ghillie, and in the last 10-12 years when i was working the catches declined. The beat i worked had a 5 year average of 450-650 fish, then fell away to about 300. This decline is not only happening here it is world wide. As usual mans greed, and it will soon be to late to save a iconic species.

Really hacks me off that we are seeing the extinction of a species and doing chuff all! My river,The Nith, is dead. Predators everywhere and people think they are cool watching cormorants, herons, mergansers fishing the heart out of it in the centre of Dumfries!

Signed, and thank you for highlighting this.

I am secretary of a fishing club in the Peak District.

We have a trout river, with significant predators ( and a minuscule number that are allowed to be culled by permit ).

Frustrating is a word that comes to mind !
