Cawdor118
Morning team. Im after some 30" pattern plate targets, I understand I could get them printed by a specialist, but wondered if anyone knew where I could buy a few of the "self healing" old plastic type? I don't have the space for a painted steel type. Thanks a lot in advance.
JohnfromUK
Not much help, but two things; You need to draw the 30" circle around the (perceived) centre of the pattern after the shot (because inevitable they aren't equally around the 'bull' mark). You really need papers/targets around 4 ft square. If your target is near 30" you will loose a lot of pellets off the side and so (on the more open patterns) may not be able to find thetrue centre. I used opened out paper sacks that I think were made for bran (bulky but light hence very large sacks) and managed to get some damaged ones from a local agricultural feed supplier, but that was many years ago. Its quite hard work doing patterns at 40 yards! You need a dead still day as well as they are like a sail in a wind ..........

TIGHTCHOKE
Other than that we use old cardboard boxes, opened out flat and again supported on a simple frame.

This. Buy cheap lining paper.Staple to an old pallet. Assemble a length, 31" of wooden lath, a pin or nail and a pencil. Place nail through the lathe drill hole for pencil. You've made your 30" scriber. The pin is driven through the lining paper after the shot is fired into the pallet. The pallet can of course be shot at until destruction. The lining paper used just the once. Edited January 19 by enfieldspares

Westley
Those 'pattern plate' printed things can be bought at most shooting grounds that have a pattern plate. If you are looking at gun fit, do that at 16 yards. If you are patterning your gun, then 30 to 40 yards.
