Have you all sent your energy supplier your current meter readings?

With the rapidly approaching change in energy prices it is reckoned to be a good idea to send in up to date readings for gas and electricity to ensure you gain from the price change.

If you have a Smart Meter it is not necessary.

The change is only pennies really,I read my meters a week ago,so the estimate now will be close enough. Bet the standing charges won’t come down, go up more likely! Over half my bill in summer is the standing charge!

Thanks for reminding me. All done.

My standing charges are 60p (electricity) and 30p (gas) per day, total 90p.  Not changing on 1st July.

Fuel is 8 KWh (electricity) = £1.91 and 5 KWh (gas) = (30p), total £2.21, so a lot more than standing charge.  Both reducing slightly on 1st July.

From 1st July I will save around 15p a day at current summer usage (same electricity, but MUCH lower gas compared to winter).

Hello, The big Energy Companies should be charged with Theft with the Standing Charges in nearly every home in UK

Was this theft not part of the plan to enrich their sonsors?

It was (partly allowed to) pay for the roll out of "smart" meters and the extensive 'private' network needed to allow them to communicate.

As a great Gov't projects - it's all been expensive and full of inefficiency .......

  • The original "SMETS 1" type meters were not to a common interchangeable type, so changing suppliers often lost the "Smart" capability.
  • There is a dedicated DCC data networks that has been installed to support smart meter data https://www.smartdcc.co.uk/our-smart-network/does-a-smart-meter-need-wi-fi/
  • The SMETS 2 meters were introduced to allow supplier changes more easily - and many SMETS 1 meters have now been replaced by SMETS 2 (additional costs)
  • The system can be an advantage for some users (special tariffs for electric cars and those with surplus solar power generation capability) but for many users they have no advantage (despite their costs shared by us all) and many (allegedly) don't work reliably

My combined standing charges are 95p a day,and in summer using 2.9kw/hour of electricity (65p) and 3.3 kw/ hour of gas (19p) total £1.79 a day. Winter approx £3 a day.
