Pyrodex reclassification

Recommended Posts

Pyrodex  is a very corrosive powder it works for some types   of percussion  firearms used by mostly pistol shooters  .rifles not to bad  shotgun cartridges  same,  flintlocks  not good . I personally do not use it and prefer the original black powder  in Fg and FFg for big bore shotguns  FFFG   for shotguns of 12 and smaller also rifles and FFFFg for pistols and priming flintlocks  The main reason people used pyrodex was it could be bought  on SGC  but if it has to have a explosive certificate will see al  large number redundant .

Especially considering it costs around 3x as much too .
I would get used to living without Pyrodex if I was a user.

I tried Pyrodex many years ago I didn't even finish the first tub of it as got sick of the misfire/no fire's Back to the Holy Black ever since , Mind you with the price of black powder now it is probably more expensive than Pyrodex.

An Explosives Certificate for black powder is free on request - just apply when you are renewing your SGC. A wooden container is easily made or bought - it seems sensible to follow guidance on this but I can not actually remember mine being inspected.

I seem to remember from my black powder shooting days another powder called 777.  Is this still available and if so will it also fall under the new explosives reclassification?

FB

777 Was the first one to be reclassified as requiring an explosives license.

Thank you, when did this happen? Got a black powder section in my club and no one has mentioned it to me. Just want to be abreast of the situation as am a key holder for the range and as such have to be a RCO on occasions.
