Jonty
I know you chaps like a 'guess what it is' post. I got sent a little care package from a friend in the US. Included within the parcel was this thing - I didn't have a clue what it was, it was eventually my 17 year old engineering student daughter who guessed what it was. Any Ideas? BobbyH
So, you can put this in a tree, and you can drain tree sap?? Thats pretty simple, but genius!
enfieldspares
Warning there's a screeching when the man drills the tree! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vDn93H9gDrs
ditchman
i believe you can make a similar syrup from silver birch.....but you only have a short window when the sap rises so you would need several spiles....and i personally would add a bit of sugar to the sap water before reducing it... also have plenty of wooden plugs ...so when you take the taps/spiles out you can plug the hole to you dont damage the tree
