justjoshing
I have just been clay shooting for the first time in two years and i hit more than i missed.I hopefully will have my certificate when i have smeone to finally countersign it. When and if i do get my licence i will buy a shotgun but i just dont know wheater to get and over and under or a side by side.I have not used a side by side but i think they look better than OAU's. I want to do alot of game shooting so what would be the best choice?

beatingisbest
I would get a gun that would be easy to clean and look after maybe a Benelli If you want to do game shooting, then never get a semi auto, if thats going to be your only gun. jerico
I like semi auto.I was thinking of a camo semi auto in 20 bore. Look at the price of 20g carts compared to 12g before you make your final decision

Suffolk shooter
I will just get a side by side,Why not a semi auto? Regards Cause its illegal to shot at game with a semi or more than two shots in a shotgun And where does it say that it is illegal to shoot game with a semi automatic or with more than two shots for that matter As far as I am aware it is only frowned upon using a semi automatic on a traditional driven shoot, if you walk up or rough shoot then a semi is perfectly adequate. Please check facts before spouting off on here what is illegal and what isn't, especially to a newbie. The only thing that you can't do with a semi automatic is to have more than 2 cartridges in the mag and 1 in the chamber unless you have a FAC, and then you cannot shoot wildfowl with one of those. A K A
if a semi auto takes 3 carts, as far as i know there is no rule to say that you cant use the full amount when shooting game. thats what i have always understood. please correct me if i am wrong. henry d
....... please correct me if i am wrong. You are right they are wrong, there was a wee phase of triple barreled shotguns but to answer the above, you can shoot game with a semi that has a 2+1 capacity. Blackpowder
If your main interest is going to game and pigeon shooting do nt ignore the merits of second hand British made side by side. For your money you will get a hand made weapon which will give a life times service without getting the action tightened every few thousand rounds. blackpowder
caeser
There is no answer to your question. It's a personal thing. You are better off trying each one out and deciding yourself, what you feel comfortable with. By the way, It is not illegal to shoot game with a semi auto, and you can have 3 cartridges in the gun. Blackpowder
Cant shoot game with a semi-auto ?? lmao ! You will be able to shoot as much game as the next man with your semi auto, what you might lack is invitations to other shoots. In game shooting semi autos and pumps are still regarded with some suspicion. Blackpowder
