Chequered history

I bought this s56e maybe 15yrs ago, it came with a peeling varnish stock. Never been one to leave well alone I sanded it down and promptly removed most of the chequering [but it now had an oiled stock] over time I messed up the chequering further with various files and cutters, eventually I asked Charlie Geddes the gunsmith in Tayport if he would rescue it for me. Below is the result, Im really pleased with it so cheers Charlie, message is leave it to the experts.....the gun is a Berretta made in about mid 60's, ejector with 26" barrels....edit to say the photo really doesn't do it justice

Much like my game gun, I thoroughly enjoy using.

So Dave, does your game gun have double triggers and a straight hand stock?

If so, it`s the perfect combination.

Lovely gun by the way Island Gun. Well done in having it refurbished.

No, mine is the slightly later single trigger version set to fire the top barrel first.

I have yet to venture out with the NEW (to me) Browning, perhaps this Saturday will see its first outing.

Is that the one you bought on here ? cracking looking

Looks really nicely done.  I have a side plated S57EL I bought second hand circa 1980.  Also a varnished stock - growing white blotches under the varnish, single trigger, pistol grip, 2 sets 28" barrels, custom fitted leather case.  I had the stock stripped (done by William Powell's) and the pistol grip slimmed.  Must now be around 50 years old and I can't remember a single fault ever happening.  Really well made gun.

People just don’t seem to realise that the new entry level (Silver Pigeon?) Berettas are very much mass-produced down to a price.
Nothing wrong with them, but definitely not built to the quality of the Berettas from 40/50 years ago.

:good:

I would though, just to make it game, set and match, add fixed choke. I've always used SbS where these points came as standard. Albeit with the odd dabble with OU but always went back to SbS. Until the arthritis started, that is. I had got a Chapuis OU as above but my hands got so bad I got a single trigger pistol grip OU 20 bore which kept me going. My right hand improved so decided to sell that 20 but by that time I'd started to like the idea of that calibre when the same gun as the Topic but in 20 flavour jumped off the RFD's rack at me. The forth, championship result for me was the articulated trigger as that finger can be a little iffy at times.
