kitchrat talks about frustration.

Gets a call on Sunday pigeons all over my sown barley, gets there today and talk about frustration, there were a good 1000+ birds all over the place, walked them off twice and they came back in flocks of 200-300, landing anywhere with no flight lines, so I put some decoys and the magnet out, they did not even look at my decoys, just landing in the middle of the field then up in one big flock and back to the woods behind me, next plan, I decided to stand in front of the big wood and take them as they came over, this spooked them a bit and they split up, the next hour and half I had some shooting and managed to kill 14.

There's been a fair bit of sowing this last week or so and the pigeons that were on the rape 2 weeks ago are now on these sown fields and doing much the same on all of them.

There's some big numbers about at the minute and think when all this corn germinates they will move back to the rape, I hope.

Certainly a nice lot there and going by the photo there look two very convenient trees , there have been a cold wind blowing straight off the sea today and late this afternoon we had the first drop of rain for ages , we have got some drilling going on freshly lifted Sugar beet , so with the berries , drillings , rape and now Sugar beet then our Pigeons are not short of food .  MM

Lots of big flocks about at the moment but it’s always the same this time of year. I think they are just migrant birds, PC and myself had an afternoon on Sunday on some drilled wheat and managed 70. We found the same with the birds not really that interested in the decoys even though we pushed big numbers off the field, they had been hard on this particular field for 3 days prior to us shooting

Yep, seen it lots of times where they are a bit reluctant to decoy this time of year, they fly around the field landing anywhere then just get up for no reason and have a fly round and back down on the field, these flocks are difficult to brake up and tend to go in one or two big flocks land in the woods and trees then when they do start coming back its usually in biggish numbers, they are playing follow the leader.

Migrate birds? Maybe be but these numbers have been around here since they cut the corn, so I think they are the same birds but starting to get their winter heads on.

Possibly, they never answer the question of where they are from?
