nav54
what chokes do you guys normally opt. for over a standard decoy pattern then do you tighten up if roost shooting?
08shooter
quarter and half for everything quarter if im on the auto.
invector
1/4 and 3/4 for everything.
nav54
i was 1/4 and 1/2 but when we go to the roost shooting i tend to go 3/4 for choke barrel.
the hitman
1/4+3/4 for everything. I know 1/4+1/2 is the fav but i do like 3/4 in the second barrel.
strudwick
I have a semi in that 1/2 seems to be good at every think . i have a side by side that has 3/4 and tru , the tru is defantly to open i think ok for close stuff but seems to open up quickly so the pattan at range may not get anoth shot in the pigeon . and in my over and under 1/2 and 3/4 , but 1/4 and 1/2 would be ok as well i think
Browning GTS
In my Raptor i use half, the sbs is 3/4 and full fixed but still do ok if not better with it. I don`t think it makes that much difference!
Will Beasley
I use a Briley "light modified" in my Beretta s/a. With Nobelsport OK Game 5's or VIRI FOB 5's anything up to 60 yards gets it BLAP BLAP BLAP!
flytie
After years of shooting with a 20g which was 1/4 & 1/2 I now use imp & 1/4 for everything in my 12g However i did shoot up on the Hereford Shropshire border (near Wigmore) the other week and wished I had swopped to something a little tighter on the first four drives, they were as high as anything I have ever seen and I know a lot were out of range. But for deepest Worcestershire game shooting, pigeons & clays, Imp & 1/4 will do me ft PS Oddly I have found that 32g x 5's in Eley VIP's pattern much better through my gun with more choke instead of my normal ones. nav54
Thats something I have never done is put up a piece of card at say 35yrds and see what the pattern is like with different shells will have to give it a go the results should be interesting. Country_est
Game gun is fixed at 1/4 and 1/2. for the auto at pigeon and wild fowl use max 1/2. Clay gun is skeet /1/4 at one ground and 1/4 3/4 at the other, but if I forget to change chokes it seems to make no difference at all. killerjimbowen
get a good cartridge and stick 2 it, i belive a good pattern is more important than chokes
tulkyuk
3/4 & 3/4 for every thing - although i do tend to shoot high stuff most of the time Mainly game, Pigeon and vermin shooting
NeXTGen
(Clays here...) 3/4 in my Winchester Super X2 Sporting Full and Extra Full in the 101 Trap - just seems easier to hit with.... (!) Eley VIP's pattern very well through both ...
Ears
1/2 & 3/4 for the lot.
squodged
1/4 1/2 alway as i'm still a beginner. I've been told by just about everyone stay with the same choke and cartridge and you'll have a sounder base for improvement. Plus it's one less thing to worry about. hkrobin
Depends what shot size I've got. 1/2 or 1/4 with #6, but if all I've got is target loads in #8 I use full. Generally I don't think it's too much of an issue for pigeons though, just depends what you're happy with.
caeser
1/4 and 1/2. Never change them. I've taken woodpigeon out at over 60 yards with the 1/4 choke.(I've missed quite a few as well) but at least I think I can safely say that the ones I haven't hit at that range, have all been down to my errors, and not the choke. ferretman
HI IN MY 12BORE OVA /UNDER I USE INPROVED IN THE BOTTOLM N 1/4 IN THE TOP I NEVA CHANGE IT I SHOOT GAME TO PIGEONS AND ALL THAT SORT OF STUFF THANKS.
anser2
I use an AYA no 3 s\s and 1\4 choke both barrels and 28g or 30g loads of number 6. That will cope with any pigeon easy up to 50 yards. I use the same combination for roost shooting as well as decoying .

Cushat
1/4 in the auto for decoyed pigeons or roost shooting, 1/4 and 1/2 for most driven game or 1/2 and 3/4 for the high stuff. IMHO - there's no need for excessively tight chokes - try shooting some DTL with skeet and skeet and no. 9s - you're be amazed at what range you can get consistently good kils. petera
In the AL391 auto I use Skeet for the decoyed pigeons. Decoys set out with closet and 20 yards and furthest at 40 yards and only shoot within these ranges. Have tried various chokes on the auto but skeet at the ranges I use have given me a higher percentage of clean kills. I think it comes down to confidence and success in whatever choke you decide to use.
Ferret Master
Both my shotguns have fixed chokes so I use 1/4 and 1/2 in my 20 bore with 28g of 6's and 1/2 and full in the 12 bore with 32g of 6's. FM
