Scully Posted Monday at 21:52 Report Share Posted Monday at 21:52 A woman once ran along a river banking while we were on our rough shoot, shouting at her husband ( I assumed ) ‘They’re shooting at us, they’re shooting at us’! We just carried on our way round, thinking it was hilarious but not giving it much thought really. About three hours later, long after we’d gone home, a solitary copper turned up at mates ( on whose land our rough shoot is) farmhouse and basically said with a smile on his face, ‘I know what you lads were doing, and it’s not a problem, but a complaints been made, so I have to be able to say I responded to it’…..and that was that. The woman was nigh on hysterical apparently.

She would come out ranting and raving, her language was choice ! We would just totally ignore her, which seemed to make her even worse. Although I have left the shoot, apparently she continues to this day. 🙄

She believes that standing near to public footpaths is an offence, regardless of her lack of knowledge of the Law. She even tried "My Husband is a Police Officer " routine, until I asked to see his warrant card. Transpired he was a Civilian office clerk in the warrant office. Most of the local Bobbies know her, drive up, speak to the shoot Captain and leave. It is the inconvenience to both the shoot and the Police, which she knows and exploits. As the end gun in the line on a forestry shoot one day, I had a crowd of ramblers come walking along the ride. They were trespassing but the weirdly-beardy at the front, who was actually reading his map upside-down, told me he was going to speak to the police because it was illegal to shoot on a public footpath. I told him to speak to the next chap along the line, as he was a sergeant, or continue to the man at the far end who was an inspector. After I had convinced him that his map was the wrong way up and pointed out where he really was, they all did an about turn.
