It's difficult to find anything other than chicken, turkey or duck on restaurant menus or in the shops.

I did once have a memorable guinea-fowl curry in Bradford in the 70s and I bought some partridge breasts from Abel and Cole recently, a first for me, and they were delicious. When I've (rarely) eaten pheasant, I've found it to be very gamey.

Yeah, not alot of places sell Grouse or Pigeon i dont think?

Unless some of my Norfolk bretherin could point me in the right direction?

I used to sell game , duck and pigeons to a near by pub , a butchers stall on the market , a restaurant on the estate and a butchers shop , I would only sell them for the same price I was getting off the game dealer which in the end was not a lot , at times they hardly covered the fuel that I used to dropped them off but it gave the buyers a chance to make a little , one by one the orders got less and less and now I just do not bother in trying to sell a few head , I know a few garden centres and the odd super market that sell game ready for the oven but I don't know any eating out places that have game on the menu MM

Well, you'll all be glad (or surprised) to hear that the family is all still above ground with no ill effects from my 3 year old partridge.

Beater shoot went very well, I hit more than I missed and we had fantastic weather. Total bag of 186, mostly partridge then pheasants and about 20 mallard.

Took 3 brace of partridge home with me but they will be eaten before long. No long languishing in the freezer for these birds.

Glad to hear you are still in good health and what a fantastic beaters day , ours is tomorrow and with not getting wet on one of our days all season they forecast rain in the morning , still we will disregard that and battle through it like true soldiers , our day will be mostly Pheasants although they might do duck as they will still be in season , expected bag is normally around the 150 mark .     :good:  MM

That sounds like a great day out. I hadn't shot at a pheasant ir partridge since last beaters day as I shoot mainly snipe and woodcock or go stalking.

I like to get a pheasant and partridge on the score card each season but left it late this year.

We always have a good day but the weather can and do put a damper on things , today is almost a perfect day to be out in the countryside , maybe the clear skies and the bright sun might be to bright for shooting but we can get over that , in a way it can also be a bit of a sad day as we won't all meet up again till at least October and if we are only shooting long tails then it will be November , some us are now pushing on a bit and younger ones will soon be taking there place in the beaters line , we won't be shooting Hen birds or Woodcock tomorrow but some of the walking team can take the odd cock bird going back but certainly not any that are going forward , refreshments are provided and we also have a sweep , all in all we try and make it a decent day .   MM
