Scully
Isn’t it way past time these were de-classified? It’s just a hollow tube of baffles and no one has ever been killed or even wounded by one….unless it was thrown! I’m struggling to think of a logical reason why they were ever made S1 in the first place. 🤷♂️ Just a thought.

I can’t recall responding to this but equally can’t believe I wouldn’t have responded if I’d known! 🤔 It is as rimfire states, utter nonsense. I don’t know when moderators were first included in the firearms act but suspect it was from 1937, if not 1920.
Houseplant
It is a health and safety issue to my mind. Anyone who has fired a supersonic centrefire round through a suppressor knows that it is far from silent. Suppressed subsonic centrefire can be made very quiet, but it is inherently less lethal. Still very dangerous of course. Edited January 28 by Houseplant

Health and safety, along with less disturbance for surrounding dwellings is certainly a valid reason for using one, but I was thinking more of the reason why are they deemed as a firearm in the UK. It’s nonsense.
Houseplant
I was thinking health and safety for the shooter! And yes, classifying them as a firearm is ridiculous. Even the great gun-toting USA has restrictions on suppressors.

The consultation was highlighted on PW at the time, but as we both know, tumbleweeds usually result from calls to action. BASC has pressed the Home Office to continue what the last government started and take sound moderators out of the licensing system and we have been told by civil servants that this is still on the agenda, and we will continue to lobby for this to happen. Not from me. Have just looked back at what I was doing around that time and realised I was very busy with working towards an upcoming exhibition in Venice, so may have overlooked it. It doesn’t mean I didn’t respond, just that I can’t recall it. 🤷♂️

The point is that the thread about that moderators consultation barely made 2 pages which is unfortunately typical of calls to action on PW but mention BASC and we get a 10 pager... Fair enough, and thank you. I posted the link to your MP contact to our syndicate members via WhatsApp, which didn’t even get one response, mentioned it again on our last day last Saturday, and slipped it into the conversation again at the shoot dinner that same evening. Everyone nods, shuffles their feet a bit, looks at each other and then changes the subject asap. 🤷♂️ Very frustrating. I sense your frustration also, but there’s a history involved which you probably played little part of, but we won’t go there. We get what we deserve.
