pavman
From time to time the mods have to step in and “moderate†which normally means someone has posted a thread or picky that has offended in some way or gets a bit over the top for a Public Forum, we then debate the process which can be a bit unfair and I hold my hands up to pressing a point on occasion. The pants pic a good recent example. Like most thick skinned outdoor types I tend to bend with the wind rather than complain. The only time I have taken another view I PM’d the poster to express my view in a polite way and gave them the chance to modify the post via an edit, when this did not happen (as they where not logged on at the time) I did PM the mods as the post concerned related to shooting quarry out of season and I felt a duty to act to assist. So I got to thinking would a bit more of self Policing be in order, If you are genuinely offended why not send a polite PM and at least give the poster a chance to edit the post/thread to avoid it being taken down altogether, you could make a new friend into the bargain by acting in a mature fashion and allow others to understand we don’t all have the same point of view but in the nicest possible way. If you don’t agree and feel its best to PM the mods on the sly shame on you, you’re a lily livered coward
Guest The Outlaw
Good man! I totaly agree and I have been moding my own posts lately coz I do go for it a bit. I have been bad boy in the past and have had more than a few slaps on the wrist, which I have accepted graciously. I don't mind getting a PM from someone if they think I have been OTT. In fact it is better than taking up the mods time if we could self police a bit more, leave the mods to deal with the likes of Justnoshing. Blackbart
So what happens when the mods step in to "moderate"when they have no real reason to moderate anything? Who moderates the mods? One of my posts was "moderated" and i was sent a pm by a mod threatening me with a ban, totaly unjustified and i think it was in response to the fact i disagreed with him a couple of days earlier on another post,(very politely may i add). So yes a degree of self modding should be encouraged, but i also think that the mods should state on the post why they have modded some posts, some do some dont and in the case of my little tiff taff some of my posts were simply removed alltogether. njc110381
I think that's a great idea. I guess most of us have a mod that tends to pick on us more than others (my bully is HenryD ) but that's just down to the individuals characters clashing. All the times I've been pulled up on something I've disagreed with at first, but when I look back I do realise that my post could have been misleading or offensive! I must add that HenryD has also been extremely helpful to me in the past and has offered advice and help on several occasions so this post is in no way having a dig at him. I'm just trying to prove the point that the mods don't bear a grudge against you for doing something wrong. They're just trying to make PW a happy forum for everyone, and there's a very fine line between what some find funny and others find unacceptable. We can't all be happy all of the time, a bit of give and take is needed.
henry d
One of the reasons we have moderators is to moderate as many a time I have had to remind people to read either the forum rules or pinned topics, as quite clearly they haven`t done so and the former is a requirement of your registration on this forum. In a perfect world we wouldn`t need to moderate as the majority of people here are adults, some are even responsible , and as such can moderate themselves, however it is not a perfect world and as such there are rules and they require enforcing at times. Although I agree with your post we are all entitled to our opinion, if it offends a few members get over it, you can often tell what the content is by looking at the title, so don't look!! What I disagree with is when a mod either deletes the thread or removes the first post within the thread, we then end up with another pointless argument. What the mods should do is contact the member who posted and say we have had several complaints please modify the post. No need in saying .......................removed this part, found offense. I agree with most of what you said but on the occasion i am talking about the mod took great exception to the fact that 4 or 5 of us were discussing the merits of a pedigree gundog or a gundog with no papers, and actually told us to stop posting on the subject as it had no place on this forum and to go to another forum if we wanted to discuss it!!!SO there you have it,its official gundogs have no place on a shooting forum!! No, not quite, you were told to put it in the relevant section, ie. dog & dog training section as it was general chat in the sale section which if you read the pinned topic states you shouldn`t post in that section, you then asked in the same section, if I was on my period and I asked if you wanted a month off. I feel I did the right thing at the time as you had abused the section rules on several occaisions and you haven`t broken any other rules since so the message got through. Axe
This topic is going off subject, I will not allow it to turn into another excuse to have a go at me or my fellow moderators. If you have a complaint with something then the correct course of action is to contact the moderator involved or the forums administrator. But please do not expect any of us to respond to public condemnation. If you post something that does not conform to the forum rules it will be moderated. That may mean the removal of a comment, post or entire topic. It will depend largely on the importance of the topic and how much work is required to bring the topic inline with the forum rules. Remember, it is not us that break the rules it is the member. If you are moderated, you only have yourself to blame.

Each part of the Forum, is referred to as a section, or a Forum. Obviously on this occasion you did not realise you were being asked to post your comments in the appropriate place and not derail the thread. If you have a close look, you will notice we have a "Dogs and Dog Training" Forum, so to say that you can't post about gundogs on here is a bit disingenuous. As to the question, "Who moderates the Moderators", it is the Site Owner, Teal. If you want to know who moderates Teal, it is God and if you don't believe in Him, its nobody.
