LEFTY478
When I first left school and started working (YTS) in 1986, my first take home pay was £25. A couple of days ago, I put £92.50 of diesel in the Shogun, or 370% of my 1986 weekly pay. That was three weeks and three & a half days' pay! 1994, 3 bed semi £88k. Now, 1/4 mill plus. I feel so sorry for anybody starting out, on the property ladder today. Fifty year morgages will soon be the norm. Followed by the NHS trying to steal your house, to pay for your medical bills. Some days in doesn't seem worth getting out of bed.
Poacher
Some days in doesn't seem worth getting out of bed. Most don't, pretend to be ill, claim benefits, free house. Bob's your uncle have ten kids and four girlfriends were off.. Joke ! Its just something we have to live with.

Not to rub it in but I pay US$50.00 to fill our SUV over here compared to your $189.50 (at the current rate of exchange) Whe I emigrated my income fell by about 33% - my disposable income has actually increased as a result of the move. I wonder why?
Cranfield
1994, 3 bed semi £88k. Now, 1/4 mill plus. According to some of the current forecast, house prices could drop by as much as 30% over the next 10 years. That will bring your 1/4 million semi back to near £88k. Life is but a circle
dustyfox
Just let the poles keep comeing in working for peanuts which in turn keeps our wadges down , just a vicious circle The wages will not go down the government put them up so they get more money from the tax. And the poles, there are plenty of jobs for everybody here at the moment, its just weather the people who are on benifits can be bothered to get of their backsides and get one. Always blaming other people from a different country its stupid, we should look at our own at least the poles come over here to work. Mungler
Did you know that 60% of the Scottish work force is apparently in some form of Public Sector employment? Artificial employment such as that won't last forever.

Life is but a circle Whist I have no grounds to disbelieve that, I would be stunned if the dropped that much, I can see then slowing down a lot but not dropping 30% I hope not anyway, that is my only real pension My first wage packet was £27/week from memory, and to fill my FS1-E up with petrol was about £1 including oil. And I agree with Dustyfox
al4x
won't happen in the south Stuart its a load of scaremongering rubbish. Together they are forecasting interest rates to drop next year and house prices to fall dramatically as well and the two just don't go together. So far all we've actually seen is a drop in the rate of increase in property values not a fall except at the very very top of the market thats dropped a little but not the average house
Guest The Outlaw
The good thing about inflation is that at the moment we pay approx £1k a month for our mortgage. But in 15 years time £1k would be a weeks wages so IMO on houses and the costs it would balance out. Or a days wage in the case of Mr Mungler Tony

So far all we've actually seen is a drop in the rate of increase in property values not a fall except at the very very top of the market thats dropped a little but not the average house Interest rates will have to drop next year to keep the housing market moving. Otherwise, most of the people with fixed price mortgages ending their term, will not be able to afford their new mortgages at the revised interest rates. House prices will fall because the market is slow and the first time buyers are drying up, because they can't afford to get on the ladder. Remember, without a first time buyer somewhere, very few houses are sold. This year I have known four people who have sold their property and moved on. Not one of them got the Estate Agents valuation, all had to drop their prices by 15-20% to sell them.

If not, and it is a government agency funded by my tax, then I am pleased to note that I too am putting something back into the countryside, however, I will try and be less up my **** about it than you. bullterrier
Oils at a ridiculous price (watch the Russians back Iran with words if we try to impose sanctions on them, ensuring the price will rise even more giving Russia even more of a windfall). The price of cereal products has risen due to the wet summer & the increase in bio fuel use, housing is a disaster waiting to happen. Local government seem to get excellent pay rises every year as well as damn good pensions, but there is less & less private sector workers in manufacturing, sales etc to pay for them, it`ll all end in tears I feel. I happen to work with quiet a lot of Polish migrants & they`re just the same as every body else, some work hard, some are damned lazy & although I like a lot of them as individuals with the masses of them that have settled here it has helped to push up housing prices massively & is possibly the predominant factor in housing prices, (predominant but not the only reason). I wish my pay would go up as much as these rises in costs !
jayward
well all i can say is theres no slow in the market around my way !! Theres a minor issue with the top end of the market being there over valued and unrealistically priced, brought on by PAST high demand pure and simple.. BUT Now the rush to upgrade by the masses using the capital growth in there previous/ initial property has slowed , Due to nothing more than rate insecurity and tabloid scaremongering the likes " massive decreases in property value " etc etc Needless to say the estate agents catch on quick and new to market and first time buyer type property's are still being sold out in less than a few days and thats a fact !!! so will it crash well i don't see all the bricks and motor wealthy people i know dumping just yet !! thats for sure .... High Desert Hunter
Well I have a little salt for the wounds. I pay $3.40 for diesel, costs me about $85 to fill my Dodge truck, I bought my house 10 years ago, it isn't big(1450 sq ft), doesn't have a big lot, does have an oversized 1 car garage, and costs me $495 per month, now I don't make a lot of money either, I get a small pension from the Air Force, and I make about $25/hr, 40hr/wk. I do however have a fair amount public land available for quail and coyote hunting, much as I would like to move somewhere with a better variety of game birds, I think I will stay put, and just learn to speak Mexican.
