Highlander
OK apologies first, if this has been posted on here before but I'm way to busy (on PW ) to go look up the archives but after being plagued with Mr Mole for sometime now and having used every method advised by JC (that's Jasper Carrot NOT Jesus Christ before any religious zealots go for me ) I got lucky. Old friend (and I mean 'old') suggested this trick...set trap in usual way (scissor kind) but place a piece of dirty old carpet over the top to block out any light and then rake dirt back over trap leaving handles protruding so you can see if the trap has gone off. Blow me first night and sure as hell it worked. So for the other 100 little criters using my lawn (well field then) as a playground...you're days are numbered! Paul in North Lincs.
I hear a large jam jar placed in a run is effective......alledgely mole enters...and hasn't the brains to turn around and just continues to dig at the bottom of glass..... How true it is .......I no not!!!!
vole
So cut a hole I presume in the carpet to see the prongs?Would bin liner do the same?
webber
Highlander I can remember Jasper Carrot telling the mole tale on the telly many years ago. It was hilarious then. I wonder if it could be found in an archive somewhere? webber
Cranfield
Thats the way I always set my mole traps, its important to keep all the light out, but no collapse the run. Also, beware the new style "scissor" traps that are about now. The length of the arms is much shorter and they are nowhere near as effective. Ferretboy111
Never had any trouble with catching moles, i dont wear gloves, just shove the trap on the run, pinch the grass back overtop, and hay presto, 5 moles down in a week. Think the trick is to have as many traps as you can out on one known area of runs. I put 6 on some small runs, cant escape them then. Guest The Outlaw
My mother-in-law who is really nice by the way, had problems with moles and for a laugh i said to her husband, pee on the mounds of soil they throw up. I justified my theory by saying that moles wouldnt burrow where there are animals grazing because thier runs would get flattened. He being a Doctor of nuclear physics said it was logical and tried it. But guess what? it only flipping worked and the moles have revved up and gone away. So much for a leg pull. Dave-G
I tried the Eau-de-urine method and it worked very well on my lawn and a rugby field. I think they see it as the patch being 'scented so sod off
