lozrob
been out every weekend since well before christmas, 1000's of pigeons all over my permission. i set up , BANG, they all dissappear to the next rape field, i set up in that field, BANG , guess what they all dissappear to another field. my permission has 3 large rape fields , and the pigeons go where ever im not. would it be a good idea to put up wind powered bird scarers, in the other fields to put them up . many thanks for any input ( sencible ones though ay )
apbuild
See if you can get a buddy to set up on the other side of the field to keep the birds moving around. If you have movement in your pattern, then the birds should be interested at this moment in time. Give it a try. Rob.
Cranfield
Its definitely worth putting something in the other fields to try to move the birds on to the field you select. Gas guns, string bangers, fertilizer sacks on poles, even other pigeon shooters, there are lots of things that might work.
ROBLATCH
i think i would opt to have a few mates set up in the other fields and hopefully bang them about between you.
stevethefish
I agree with Roblatch that way you get better shooting and your mates do too.
pete1dart
Hi guys, first post for me this one! Having people on every field would be the best option. Keep em moving!
Guest charlie--chalk
when u turn up for your days decoying do u get there when they're already feeding? if so, i would suggest that u get there well in advance of the getting there coz they never turn up in a flock of several hundred! if u have no friends who can help shoot the other fields on that day u could always try tying plastic bags to bamboo canes and place them all over the areas where u want to keep the pigeons off. this may get u a bit more movement. But even with 2 of us on the three fields the pigeon move to the one we are not on I suspect if you put a gun in each field they will move to another site completely My best suggestion is to be patient, the large flocks will break up soon and then one shot won't scare them all off
mellors
I have found that red and white plastic tape used round road works 4ft long 3 or 4 in each field does the trick. Also coulored ballons tied to a lump of wood also works. Don,t forget to fetch them when you finish.
auto culto
i,m having the same trouble and its damn annoying when you get 500+ sitting 200 yards away. They just wont decoy in. I will be trying to catch them first thing on their flightline before they get settled next time i,m out. The owner lets me take one shooting buddy but would prefer i didn't. Ah well his loss as i could do with 6+ guns just to keep them moving and get them shifted as there is so much for them to eat your wasting your time on your Jack Jones
