smokingdragon
Hi I'm trying to find out as much about Cockers before I actually get one and after owning a GSD, my vacuum cleaner wants to know how badly do cockers moult? (Hopefully not like GSD's!!) Simon

the hitman
I have a 11month old golden cocker, and he is my first dog. He does cast a bit of hair but its not a problem. When choosing a gundog you cant go wrong with a cocker, they are hunting machines , and mine is great with the kids. They need plenty exercise , but because of their size they wont eat you out of house and home. There are plenty cocker owners on here with more experience than me , so keep asking the questions. Millomite
Nowhere near as much as a GSD. Every dog moults mate, cocker hairs are small though. Just buy a cocker which matches your carpet, simple
Popgun
I 've got 2 cockers they both moult but not a lot, i had 1 a few years back and he never moulted at all so it varies a bit
gdunc
More of a cast than a moult. Our black cocker leaves small black hairs everywhere she goes but they're not bad and made more visible by out light floor tiles. It gives the missus the excuse she needs to run round with the hoover 3 times a day which is a hobby of hers
smokingdragon
Cheers guys The new dog will have to travel in our motorhome without leaving half an inch of hair over everything. I'm also thinking of getting a terrier pup(JR) as well to keep it company as we will be out at work all day. I started shooting this year and my neighbour has 3 cockers and they superb at putting up game Having 2 pups will be quite a change from our late 8 yr old GSD. :-( Cheers Simon
ShaggyRS6
Dunno about cockers. But my Springer does. When he dont its fine, no hair at all, then when he does, oh boy. It comes out in handfulls

plinker
it does not matter about the moulting because he will eat your carpets and chew bits off your dyson first chance he gets my two are rolling around beside me trying to chew bits off each other at the moment. back to your question they are better than most breeds when it comes to shedding hair because they are fairly short coated, all dogs moult but not all year round. smokingdragon
Well, I've seen some litters today and have decided on ----2 boys who are 18 weeks old, a black and a 'gold' cocker. The dam is an Irish import and the sire is normal FTCH stock. Both parents were in the kennels. I'm a bit nervous now of the forthcoming whirlwind but they are lovelly pups!! I'll post some pics later in the week. Simon
