Teal
I've just seen these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/purse-nets-pegs-10-E...1QQcmdZViewItem (item: 200196755454) To me they look a good job, I was just wondering if anyone else has tried them before or has any thoughts. They certainly look like they will be easy to get into the ground. I'd say they will probably hold well too but wanted a bit of support (I'm new to ferreting) before I made a purchase. Stealth Stalker
Can't see the link Teal, I've got a shed full of 1" thick mahogany that I cut up to peg size, I find they're fine for the job & will last a while. Pm me if you want some. SS
pin
I'll vouch for those pegs, lovely bit of wood they are
Cranfield
If you can drill and whittle , do so. Making your own wooden pegs (or using meat skewers ) is half the fun. Don't forget that net pegs have to be pushed into the ground by hand, you do not want sharp tops or edges on them. I wonder if the eBay Seller posts on here. Teal
This link might work, they're basically triangular pegs made out of polypropylene rather than hardwood. I thought that they looked very easy to get into the ground. Thanks for the replies. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...55454%26fvi%3D1
pin
How thick are they? They look the part, I wonder how well they'd go into frozen ground
Cranfield
I went and found the item before I posted and my comments about sharp edges was aimed at their design. I would not want to push those pegs into hard ground using the flat of my hand. Before someone suggests it, real ferreters don't use mallets. Teal
Could you not use your foot? I believe they are 6mm thick which is very little and so I do take on board both of your comments. Thankyou very much for the kind offer stealthstalker, I shall let you know what I decide. I'm with you Cranfield, far too sharp edges for my liking I bought some wooden ones off the same website last year. Fantastic they are, hard wood with rounded tops. Unfortunately I haven't seen them listed for a while as I would like to get some more. Much easier on the hands

Ferret Master
I would be worried about one snapping if it hit hard ground and it looks rather narrow to push in? Or are they actually stronger than they look? FM
Tarka
i wouldnt waste good money on it easy and quick enough to make!! just split some ash wood into whatever size you like and wittle and drill looks a damn site better aswell
ShaggyRS6
Just chucked one out of the upstairs window onto my drive way. It bounced a long way they are pretty thick Edited February 6, 2008 by ShaggyRS6
larson
i use tent pegs with a sharpened point and the end bent in to a loop, then brazzed shut or welded.. i find these work much better than the wooden ones as they go in to the hard ground easier

gsmith
Save your cash get some pegs for free, find a hazel or willow coppice and cut them from this you can then either drill a hole and tie the purse on or cut a grove and tie it on. A freind of mine has never bought a peg "or net" in his life and has ferreted for 40 years now. All keen ferreters have probably read his book also.
