mr smith
I have a couple of fields of rape side by side divided by a country road. One field no probs surrounded by other fields on the other sides. This other one is approximately 500mx500m square, however it has it's problems. To the north there is a quite road but with a line of houses on it,to the south there is a graveyard(still in use i think),to the east is a busy main road and west is a fairly busy country road. Now the doo's are taking the proverbial and mostly flighting into this field and ignoring the other one, can't blame them as their being shot at one field and not the other. Is this field shootable without ******* off anyone. nav54
sounds a bit tricky prob leave it alone but go on the other and bag that field or if you have a spare magnet put that in the field with a couple of bags on it. Put as many coys out as you can get ya hands on and get there before the birds start to move. i have all ways found it is best not to try and pee any one off cos it can only do you harm and the grief is normally not worth it. webber
You may discharge a firearm 50 FEET from the centre of a highway. That said, from your description of the situation an air rifle may be the best tool to use, or just dont shoot it. Please dont compromise on safety. webber
mr smith
Think next time i'm out that way i'll see if they can stick out a banger in the field to see if it'll at least keep them on the move.
Teal
You could shoot birds coming into land/low, if you set up your pattern right and ideally the field would have a camber for this. Alternatively and what might be best is to try and bag the field off to push the birds off it or put a banger out.

mr smith
They bagged the field weeks ago and the pigeons aren't put off in the slightest now,but they've not had the banger on for a wee while. Will see if they will pop one out there next time. It was mentioned making a hide out pallets in the middle somewhere. Edited February 9, 2008 by mr smith
webber
The trouble with a hide in the middle of this field is that the field id only 500 mts, yet your shot can easily travel 300 mts, and therefore travel outside the boundaries. webber

bunnybasher07
or use a smaller caliber gun like a .410 or a 20 bore so that people from the grave yard cant hear you as much and just take low shots or put out some deeks and take them with a airgun (if you have one) GM
charlie 1
You really want a banger rope or a whirly with a couple of bags onnit. a gas gun mite be out of the question because they are so loud that with houses so close the farmer will probs get complaints. and set up your pattern on the safer field its not worth upsetting people just for a little bit of shooting. its better to make sure you keep your shooting for the long term. good luck let us know how you get on
Sundodger
Try putting a scare crow in the feild that is dodgy to shoot along with some white flags or plastic bags tied to small sticks. Sundodger
bignoel
try a line of crow scarers keep them moveing
Highlander
You may discharge a firearm 50 FEET from the centre of a highway. That said, from your description of the situation an air rifle may be the best tool to use, or just dont shoot it. Please dont compromise on safety. webber One of the most misunderstood pieces of shotgun law...the wording is 'It is an offence to fire any weapon within 50 feet of the centre of any roadway,IF by doing so you cause a nuisance.' This offence could be committed by someone on private property close to a road who used a gun in a way which upset people on the road. (this last bit is not the wording but an interpretation of it). Therefore strictly speaking you could fire the weapon on the highway BUT if someone takes exception to that you're probably gonna be in deep S****! We all have bits of ground that aren't easy to shoot so always err on the side of caution; don't shoot it, scare it!
