KiwiDogman
Cranfield, No mate I mean dogging a pig, that is chasing it in scrub that you can hardly walk through and nearly straight up and down, then sticking or shooting it and then carrying it out back to the vehicle on your back You can shoot anything if you have a big enough gun. millo2
It's man parts are as big as mine
Fisherman Mike
Nice story but typical yanks, the picture is a fake, a good one though... The hog is not casting a shadow unlike the man in the picture. Can you imagine any American keeping that thing secret and burying the carcass unless it was anything other than a put up job... of course not... They would be saddling it up, stitching on some micky mouse ears and riding it on the electoral campaign to the tune of Dixie.. Call me sceptical.... but somethin aint quite right dawgnamit
sharp_shooter
Not saying its real, but there is a shadow on the left side of the man, look at his shoulder.
lurcherboy
Chaps, look carefully, he is standing well back from the porky. LB
sammy the bull
id say thats real enough. it is casting a shadow on his right shoulder, and he is stood right next to it, so his shadow will be mixed with the hogs. plus the way the sun is shining and the angle of the shot is taken, you wont see much of one anyway but like they say !! " only in the US of A "
Cranfield
Mike, I have met a chap who posts as, "Copperbelly", on a US Fishing Forum. He swears that the picture is accurate, the hog weighed over 1000 lbs and he personally knows the man who buried it. "Copperbelly" is 6ft-4ins tall and almost as round. He is a "good old boy" and never told a lie in his life.
Fisherman Mike
Hmmm... I would in no way question copperbellies integrity, having never met the guy. but I have my doubts... I have shown the picture to a friend who is a professional photographer and though he cant be certain he reckons the hog is superimosed and the perspective is wrong. The hog in the picture based on the average size and weight of the man stood by it should be about 2000LB..!!! Real or not that is some pig. High_gun
With FM here, If the sun is consistant which it ends to be whereI live, the shadow of the pig would cover more than his shoulder going by the mans shadow. Also, may just be me but it appears that his right hand has had his fingers stretched to cover both feet. Still a rum sized hog though! KiwiDogman
It is definately possible, I have seen photos in mags from the states of Russian Boars of 600 pounds or more, so 1000 is not completely out of the question. As for it being a superimpossed picture, why would you bother, unless your'e full of it!! KiwiDogman.
red_stag88
Q How would you hoist it up as such? A Use a crane. Q How do you get a crane into a dense pine forest?
sammy the bull
id reckon up a road like many other vehicles.................. they do have very large trucks to carry the pine when its cut down for lumber you know........the yanks ones are always bigger than ours.its the way they like it......little man syndrome !!! M ROBSON
Red, The story say they used a back hoe (JCB) to hoist it up, probably the one they dug the hole with that they buried it in. I think it is real because if you look real close you can see the guy holding the hogs feet to stop it spinning for the photo.
digger
its not real, just checked and the wife is still here.
red_stag88
Why would you bury it in the first place? They make good eating.
Cranfield
red stagg88, A boar that size and obvious age, would taste like an old boot. The cooking smell would be awful. My friends in the US would not eat any adult boar, even the small males have to be castrated and bled immediately they are killed, to avoid the meat tasting musky. Feral/wild pigs are not quite the same as our tame porkers.
The Antipodean
I agree it is a huge pig but ive seen photos in the shooting press over here of pigs of similar size taken from Cape York.
