Out for the third time this week. A good stiff wind in the morning helped keep the birds on the move all though there were not great numbers about most came into the decot\magnet patten over rape. The wind died during the afternoon. A lot more birds about in the afternoon including one huge flock of

5-6 000 , but hardly any showed any interest in the decoys . Ended up with 42 pigeons.

Your bags are awesome mate! Either you are a genius on pigeon shooting or there are so many about down there, please send some up north. :/ Well done.

Si ,

down here in N Norfolk we have been invaded by big numbers of pigeons over the past 2 weeks. The phone has been red hot all week with farmers wanting their rape protected. One of the farmers i shoot for told me that his brother shot 600 and 900 over 2 days a while ago on a farm near the coast. They have done some real dammage to a lot of fields at a time when the rape needs to be growing if they are going to get any good yealds. One field of 40 acres has been ploughed in and reseeded with spring barley as there was hardly any rape left on it. Several fields that were 1-2 feet high have been striped down to the ground level. One farmer dropped around a case of shells which will be useful as there is little market for the birds now. I was getting 25 p a few weeks ago , only 10P now.

All the birds seem to want is the rape , i have not killed a single pigeon over drillings this year. As for doing it right , there are much more experianced decoyers on here than me. I just use 25 decoys ( shells and H&H rubber coys ( some fitted with silosocks , but I still cant make my mind up if they make any difference yet ) a couple of lofters , one magnet and a bouncer. Use army camo net and drape a small grey green net over it to make it less dark.

I have my good days and bad , but this time of year I only work a couple of days a week I can get out 4-5 days a week if the weather is right , so plenty of chance to bag a few birds over the 8,000 acres I shoot over. Got the choice of 4 strong feeds in the morning so provided rain does not stop play hope to have some fun in the morning .

Made a major cock up today  . I intended to have a go at the big flock of pigeons I saw yesterday , but the weather man said it was going to rain all day. Just to make sure i was up at 6.00 and sure enough it was raining. So turned over and went back to sleep only to wake 3 hours later and it was dry. I guess I could have got my ars* into gear and had a few hours at them , but I had aranged to have a roost shoot tonight so I stayed at home. As I drove out to the woods this afternoon the fields were blue with thousands of pigeons. It was a bit too calm for roost shooting and only got 3 for half a dozen shots and one of them the dog could not find.

I cant shoot tommorow so hoping the birds will hang about a bit longer.

Hi Henry,

Just typical, we've been invaded by geese ever since the end of the season, there everywhere!!

You'll see a pic at the bottom of the pigeon photo page on our website, the photo doesn't actually do it much justice as the light was fading.

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Henry,

We shot another albino Woodpigeon today as well, that's the second this year!

Here's a couple of pics,

I saw it on a power line yesterday with about 400 other woodies feeding on an Oat stubble, I told my German clients about it, when I went to see them at lunchtime they'd shot it!

Cheers,

Mark.

Out this afternoon on a bean stubble. The pigeons trickled in a steady flow until about 5.30 and ended with 56 picked up and 6 lost. There was almost no scent and the dogs had a job to find any birds that fell in long grass , plus 3 birds hung up in a high thick hedge that were unreachable.

Unfortunately a lot of very young birds were shot early on , but later on most of the birds were well grown youngsters or adults. The layout of the field, wind direction and the presence of several houses 3-400 yards behind and to the side of the field meant I had to set up looking into the setting sun so it was impossible to tell the difference between very young birds and adults
