Cranfield
You can feed a ferret anything that you can legally shoot, they also like raw fish occasionally. They are OK with a "complete" carcase, whether they are birds or mammals. Birds will mean a mess with feathers everywhere, so I cut the wings off and remove the tail feathers (of pigeon for example). Don't forget to remove uneaten carcases, or they will create a smell and attract flies. Depending where you live, it might be better to feed dry ferret food during the hotter months, to avoid the flies.

lurcherboy
Come the summer you will be better off feeding carcus after dark. A egg raw or boiled once a week will go down well too. LB

Highlander
Firstly I don't keep ferrets so my knowledge is limited BUT my ferretting buddy has a good number and he NEVER feeds them meat on the grounds that if they don't get a taste for it they won't stay under and snack. He never uses locators and we've never had to leave a ferret under after a days outing, they always come out. He also lets his kids play with them which makes them very docile and whilst I'd hesitate to say 'never' I've not been bitten yet!

Ferret Master
Mine just enjoy spreading the feathers everywhere and making as big a mess as possible. FM
Billy the Kid
I feed flesh and some dryfood in the colder months , then mainly dry in the warmer months with the occasional treat of an egg or small amount of flesh(not enough for them to cache),food consumption increases with the onset of colder weather in the Autumn.
