taz24
AAARRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG I've got worse. I had got resonably constant shooting sporting clays. On average I was just hitting more than I missed. Because of other commitments I have missed the last few shoots and am out of practice, but today was appaling I only hit 18 out of 50 and, and, and, and well i wanted to scream . I felt like that brat from the telly who screeched I'll screarm and scream and scream till I'm sick Right glad thats off my chest. How did you do today Cheers taz Ps my friend does not call it shooting he calls it Missed the bast**d taz

I'm still learning but one thing I have learnt is you shoot with your head as much as the eye - hand coordination. It was as though I knew I had hit it or missed it as soon as the trigger was pressed . Still the weather was and is still fantastic here. More like summer than late winter and as somebody said earlier a bad days shooting is still better than a good day at work Cheers taz
bob300w
You are certainly right about one thing 85% of shooting is in the mind. Out of curiosity, the next time that you shoot, go round with a different crowd, or alone, you may be surprised at the difference in your score. It was Violet Elizabeth Bott by the way. Chard
You've got to try and stop beating yourself up about missing If you miss, you need to forget it and carry on. If you get yourself wound up, you'll get worse and worse, till you can't hit anything. Not easy sometimes, but very necessary
Markio
Try some skeet, it gets your swing back in and also there is a better chance of breaking more than when on sporting so it gives you a bit of an ego boost. It works for me as i used to be really bad at sporting!
Mungler
Ah, Just William - Richmal Compton. Grew up on that stuff from the grandparents. And to think, Richmal Compton was a chick.
taz24
It was Violet Elizabeth Bott by the way. It was indeed and cheers for the advice. I've been invited to shoot with Peter and some friends of his next week near Wakefield so I have accepted. Change is as good as a rest taz
taz24
There is one funny point to the day. On one stand there was a rabbit and a high bird from left to right both very fast the high one seemed almost out of range right from its release. Anyway I go up to the stand waste eight cartridges shooting at the sky and dirt and on returning back from the stand I tell the waiting group "well thats no supper for the kids again" One woman in the process of drinking from a can spat the contents over the man in front of her. Made me smile. taz. Edited March 30, 2008 by taz24

Spooky, or what...

Miss a clay just relax and get your composure! Don't try THINKING about where you missed or where to aim etc it should all flow naturally see swing shoot!!! I used to fluff all mine by missing ONE then starting to think too hard it's easier to just chill out have a chuckle about it with the other chaps and take each clay as it comes without thought (other than safety thoughts of course) Just enjoy yourself!
