Down South
I've been invited to take part in a fox drive by a neighboring shoot. I've got a box of Alphamax sg cartridges which I'm sure will do a good job but will my Aya Yeoman with full and half chokes take it? Anybody ever use it? Ta. JohnGalway
Too few pellets in my opinion, stick to BB's or 0's
Down South
Thanks John, I can't find much info on them. Any idea how many pellets they hold?
JohnGalway
SG is nine pellets I think? Could be wrong.

henry d
BB`s, 1`s or 2`s are good to 35 yds with your chokes, 3`s to 30yds. Best of luck !!
Down South
I think I'll go with 3s Henry. The Yeoman is great for ground game but does kick a bit when stoked up. Edited April 7, 2008 by Down South
Evil Elvis
Johns right, nine....bloody great pellets!!! I have used them to good effect at fairly close range(40 yards) and they are very effective, but I use bb's now and they work just fine. Ferret Master
What length are the cartridges? I think most Yeomans have 2 3/4'' chambers and aren't mangum proofed. FM
Down South
These are older cartridges and are for 2 3/4" chambers. They are staying in the ammo safe for a while longer. Edited April 8, 2008 by Down South
Paul223
BB's do the job just nice
radio1ham
alphamax damn good cartridges they pack a good punch just like the baikal cartridges if sg i would be unsure using them in anything more than 1/4 choke i use an old hammer gun when using sg size shot which has only 1/4 choke
Down South
To be quite honest, I found the best all round ground game cartridge to be RC sipe 5s. Before I had a rifle I used those in my old Yeoman for rabbit and lethal on the odd fox that came my way. They kick too. The keeper running this fox shoot has stipulated we use "appropriate load for fox", so it's a box of BB on the way. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. DS. anschutz.17hmr
bb,s or 1,s to many gaps in sg pattern to ensure a humane kill,
bob300w
Just to clarify, pellet count per ounce; LG=6 SG=8 Spec.SG=11 SSG=15 AAA=35 BB=70 1=100 3=140 I would say that more foxes are killed with 6's than any other shot size, especially at game shoots! Choke is not really important, it has less effect on the larger pellet sizes than small shot. Personally, if I was going out specifically for foxes, I would use 3 inch 1's or 3's. BB if that's what was available. I have seen a gun shoot at a fox at 40 yards with SG, you could see the the dust all around it where the pellets hit the ground, both sides, above and below, the fox escaped, untouched. al4x
I've used SSG's on Muntjack in the past (legally before I get abused) and they work very very well but and this is a major thing I also managed to shoot a land rover that was at 90 degrees to the muntjack and 70 yards away purely from a ricochet from a tree behind the deer. Couldn't find damage but the driver wasn't amused though he accepted the shot was safe. On the plus side they hit like a sledge hammer. On a dedicated fox drive you are far better off with something between BB's and 1's

coupe312
more than covered by everyone..... stick with BB give you a good shot number. SSG only have 9 in but **** they do make a mess.... They make a real mess of foxes and chip board. but really stick to BB's
