Lloyd90
Written by the Poster Don't try this unless you are a 95% shooter or better and have a powerful enough rifle!!!
Macperc
No, air is not suitable. You would probably have your FAC revoked if your FLO found out. .22 Hornet minimum fox rifle. .22 or .17 rimfire if you are desperate and only at very close range. If you're getting an FAC then why not get a .223 for fox? Edited July 3, 2008 by Macperc
ROB REYNOLDS UK
what if what if i hear you say ,we can all say what if he misses ect all day but at the end of the day he did not .that fox was dead before it hit the floor , iv seen foxs shot with a shotgun and centerfire rifle die slower ,much slower ..sounds like it was a high powerd air rifle kicking out 30ftlbs same power as a rimfire ..i hope i go that quick when its my time to go .. njc110381
Rimfires are closer to 100ft-lbs, and they're pushing the luck boundries a little! I've shot a Fox with my HMR, between 50 and 75 yards roughly. It went down cleanly. At 20 yards an FAC air gun will do the job as we see, but it's taking a risk. Maybe a bit like shooting a large red stag with a .243? (not that I'm an expert)
fallowbuck
Have to agree with the dissenters even FAC Air weopens are unsuitable for Fox control. As many have said the margin for error is to great! So the hunter in the video was really close and he made the kill but what about the time he justs maims the animal? No stick with a suitable shotgun or get a .22mag or above, .22lr is very marginal for a fox--horses for courses! monkeyjaimz
Personally i dont see the need to shoot them wait til the end of august / sept then shoot them or leave til winter then have some proper sport I understand what you mean perfectly, unfortunately the farmers who govern my permissions want crop protection not sport preservation as i'm sure is the case for many airgunners on here
bjlfishing
fair enough if you are over run with rabbits shoot away but posting pictures of juveniles shot and milky does is not good practice 99% of the public hate what we do anyway so posting pictures like this doesnt do and good for the image of country sports
markbivvy
so if we go out with a 22 rimmie and we see a red deer according to bjlfishing its fair sport.
Cranfield
It is not illegal to shoot a fox with an air weapon, however it is inadvisable. It is the shooters responsibility to ensure that the weapon they are using is capable of producing a fast and humane death to the quarry. Depending upon the circumstances, the shooter could find themselves prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act for causing "unecessary suffering". This thread is now wandering away from its original theme and so will be closed.....................until the next time it comes up.
