I went in to the local gun shop today and a man asked me what I was shooting,I said i was going for a bit of a dander maybe to shoot an odd pigeon or two,he said what are you shooting pigeons for this time of the year sure there still breeding, they breed three times a year,I said yeah fair enough but i,ll hardly do much damage taking one or two,I said sure the farmers need them shot if there damaging crops,I wasn't too angry at this point until he said to the shop worker anybody shooting pigeons this time of the year shouldn't be allowed a gun :good:,I could feel my blood starting to boil,ok if some people choose not shoot them at this time of year that's there choice, but have they the right to say you don't deserve to have a gun.. what angered me so much was he doesn't even know me,surely are fellow shooters shouldn't be coming out with **** like that in a public shop..

That's bad mate i sympathise with you

You don't say what type of gun you're after?

And how old you are ie teenager, mid twenties etc...

All said and done though sounds like you had a rough deal, that said if it was an air-rifle

that you were looking to buy the shop keeper might be covering his back, that you are responsible

enough to be sold an item such as this??

Was this an actual gun shop or another sports shop?

sounds a bit of a doughnut, if you don`t shoot the pigeons this time of the year the farmer will always find some one who will, take no notice of this person and enjoy your days out .I shall be out tomorrow if only to see whats about

Why should the Shop be made to suffer ?

Reading Rab's post I thought that the man who rabbited on was another customer, not an employee of the Shop.

If thats so, it has nothing to do with the Shop, they can't chose their customers.

I know quite a few shooters that don't shoot pigeons between April and August, thats their choice.

I'm presuming that the guy who had a go at you wasn't connected with the shop. But, you were dead right not to lower yourself to his level. He'd only get a kick from getting a rise out of you, people like that are sad ***** :good: Well done you and enjoy your shooting :good:

Either way rabgoat you dont loose! if they dont want to sell fine, plenty of other

places will take your money and will give you the time of day :good:

If it was a customer voicing his opinion then dont worry.....Opinions are like **** Holes every body has one!!

Besides he's probably too ignorant of the subject of pigeon shooting to know what he's talking about any way,

Chances are he was trying to be clever in front of the owner (sad ***)

Best of luck mate they aint the only gun dealer in the country :good:

The guy who was doing the moaning was another customer,He wasn't buying anything just standing about bitching,The shop owner can't have the likes of him moaning at customers he wouldn't be long putting people of..If he doesn't shoot pigeons between April and August that's fine but he can't be telling a man he shouldn't have a gun..

I can't stand people taking the moral high-ground about shooting pigeons. They are a pest species, plain and simple. Any farmer or individual enjoying shooting rights should be hammering pigeons throughout the year. There isn't a farmer growing OSR in the UK that won't have had his crops battered by pigeon. We had to re-drill about 50 acres this year due to pigeon damage - that costs a lot, and as a consequence and in my opinion, the pigeons' breeding season can get stuffed. What the hell is the point in not shooting pigeons over spring wheat, laid winter wheat, or drilled gamecover?

Rab, I would have told the guy in the shop to get back in his box. It's a very misguided comment.
