Dunkield
I was looking the the build that Crieffy did on one of these, as he he did a great job and took some good pictures of the stages too. As they seem to have gone from the forum, I thought I would post a few pictures of the stock as it arrived, and at various stages throughout the 'build' I can also use the thread to store stuff I keep forgetting So, for anyone else wanting to buy one of these stocks, this is how they arrive. [it is grey/black by the way, not blue that just seems to be lighting in some pictures] Fairly rough and ready, I have offfered the action up to it and it <almost> drops in, just a bit needs off here and there. Dunkield
It seems like I have spent no time on it at all but already if looks like this: I have thinned the fore-arm down a fair bit so it has more of sporter look and feel to it now. One of things I want to do is to get some weight of it, it weighed 1.5kg delivered and is down to 1.3 already. It doesn't seem a lot but, it is noticably heavier than the ABS stock, and also much longer. I need to get some weight off the back of the stock, that shouldn't be too hard. I am probably going to do what Crieffy did and chop the stock back a bit, this is sort of what it would look like

Dunkield
Looks great, where do you buy them from?? and how much Well the clue is kind of in the title - Richards Microfit Here: http://rifle-stocks.com/ Delivery this time was 4 months, yes really . . . They have had staff problems, so I would imagine delivery times will be coming down. Cost is about £120 landed, I didn't get hit for tax so it could have been a bit more. Wookie
**** the bed! Another wadge of cash that will almost double the cost of the gun! Ok, it's a nice looking stock, but both my rifles are tools for a job and I am not sure I would spend that sort of cash on them. However, I was contemplating trying to get an ABS stock for my .17, but I don't think they do them.
Dunkield
ABS stocks are double that if not more. The gun was £230 Anyway it's a hobby, which we all know are good fun and a complete waste of money I suppose I could have left £120 in the Building Society and watched it grow
Axe
Thats going to look rather special Stuart, it's a shame they don't do one for the Quad yet
Dunkield
Do you know if the quad similar to anything else inletting wise Axe? Finfire maybe? Or if you are feeling really brave: http://rifle-stocks.com/laminated_blanks.htm At this rate I will probably get it mostly finished it this weekend, if my southern softy pencil pushing fingers can take any more sanding action that is
Dunkield
Bit of an Adrian Mole diary this one, but here is today's update. As it turns out the action pretty well drops straight in, some very minor opening out here and there (some one asked about that can't remember who) So I gave it quick try last night before having to swap the action back into the ABS stock in time to go out shooting You can see how much bigger the laminate stock is, the length of pull is identical but the trigger is definitely further away from the back of the grip, that will take a bit of getting used to. The metalwork fits quite well too, just a few holes to drill for the screws. Having seen it and swung it about a bit I think I will keep the length as it is for now. I will get a bit more weight off (the stock ), and then think about chopping it back when/if I get the barrel chopped.
tulkyuk
Its Looking good - I think it will be the Mutts Nuts when you finally get it finished.
Blackbart
Looking good, but i think your right about the trigger, start finger stretching exercises now
Dunkield
If it stays as it is the trigger will be on the first pad on my finger, I am not sure if that is 'right' or not, just seems a bit odd at first. I could take more material off the back of the grip, but I feel I have taken enough out of there already.
MC
Stuart, according to the experts the centre of the trigger should be in the centre of the first pad of your index finger. You supposedly get the best control there.
Axe
It certainly looking very good Stuart. I'm not sure about the Finfire inletting, its food for thought though. Thanks.

Dunkield
Day 15 in the Big Brother House . . Haven't been able to do that much this weekend, what with DIY, shooting and now a bad back But it is still coming along nicley. I have got rid of the sharp edge on the front of the cheepiece that I never liked and rounded it off to match the rear. The fore-arm is now as slim as I want it, bit of work with the plane saw to that, it just needs rounding off and smothing down with sandpaper now. I will get the barrel chopped at some stage so I will hack the front 3" off the stock then, I just need to make sure the QD stud is far enough back down the woodwork. So that is front end, the grip and rear all sorted, just leaves this bit here that needs some shaping and I reckon that is it I will then have to take the rollover cheekpiece down to fit with the rifle assembled, as I only have a 50mm scope on low mounts it doesn't need to be that high. It's worth mentioning to anyone contemplating this, that doing this with a working gun is a bit of a pain, I am out shooting again this evening so I don't want to be taking the action in/out all the time. Of course, if the stock had arrived on time that wouldn't have been such a problem. It is now down to about 1250grams, and looks like this overall, I can't believe how rough it looked a week or so ago.
Axe
Its certainly looking very good, I can't wait to see this finished.
Dunkield
Well here we are then, pretty much at the end of the road. It is now the shape and finish I want - I could carry on going round and round buffing every blemish out - but it is going to get knocked about in use so that seems fairly pointless. Having given it a rub all over with 0000 wire wool it was pretty smooth, I have applied one coat of Tru Oil, which didn't go too well as my oil is old and has gone gloopy, so I will get some more. It has also been rubbed down again with wire wool as I want it matt, not glossy. If nothing esle the oil brings out the true colours of the laminate. Change of background in today's pics to break up the boredom a bit So all it needs is loads more coats of oil and a couple of QD studs, probably stainless. All in all not that bad a job to take on, if you fancy doing one go for it, I am not sure how long it took me in actual hours, but it wasn't that many as I have been juggling a couple of other projects at the same time. Axe
The oil certainly seems to have lightnened it up a bit Stuart. It looks superb, I shall be discussing the Quad with them. :yp:

Dunkield
I can't help you with the wife, but I can tell you you don't need an FAC to buy a stock
