harryhawk
THE SPIRIT OF A LOVED DOG I was standing on a hillside In a field of blowing wheat And the spirit of my cherished Dog Appeared suddenly at my feet. She looked at me with kind dark eyes An ancient wisdom shining through And in the essence of his being I saw her love for me too. Her mind did lock upon my heart As I stood there on that day. Then she told me of this story About a place so far away. I stood upon that hillside In a field of blowing wheat And in a twinkling of a second Her spirit left my feet Her tale put my heart at ease My fears did fade away She helped me know where she had gone When she left me on that day. "I live among God's creatures now In the heavens of your mind So do not grieve for me my friend As I am with my kind. My collar is a rainbow's hue My leash a shooting star My boundaries are the Milky Way Where I sparkle from afar. There are no pens or kennels here For I am not confined But free to roam God's heavens Among my doggie kind. I nap the day on a snowy cloud Gentle breezes rocking me And dream the dream of earthlings And how it use to be The trees are filled with liver treats And tennis balls abound Chew bones line the walkways Just waiting to be found. There even is a ring set up The grass all lush and green And everyone who gaits around Becomes the Best of Breed. For we're all winners in this place We have no faults, you see And God passes out those ribbons To everyone, even me. I drink from waters laced with gold My world a beauty to behold And wise old dogs do form my pride To amble at my very side. At night I sleep in angel's arms Her wings protecting me And moonbeams dance about us As stardust falls on thee. You picture me as I was on earth Just before I died The pain is gone, I am whole again Filled with well loved Pride. So when your life on earth is spent And you stand at Heaven's gate Have no fear of loneliness For here, you know I wait." dustyfox
Not nice loosing a dog but here is another poem to cheer you up Don't grieve too long for now I'm free I'm following the path God set for me I ran to Him when I heard His call I wagged my tail and left it all. I could not stay another day To bark, to love, to romp or play Games left unplayed must stay that way I found such peace it made my day. My parting has left you with a void So fill it with your remembered joy A friendship shared, your laugh, a kiss Oh yes, these things I too shall miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow My life's been full, you've given so much Your time, your love and gentle touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don't lengthen it now with undue grief Lift up your heart and share with me God wanted me now, He set me free. dustyfox
If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this -- the last battle -- can't be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close -- we two -- these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears. Mrs Sweepy
The dear friend of mine had to have her lab put to sleep a few weeks ago. She kept putting it off . Then one morning she look into her dogs eyes . And she said she knew then it had to be done . Till is day she cant explain it .But she said it was like the dog was telling her he was ready. So she took him to the vets .Now he never did like the vets . So the vet always can out to him.But that morning he got out of the car .And walk stright into the vets no problems what so ever. The friend decided that she only wanted to be in the room as he slip away. So when the time can she enter the room . She sat beside this big old loveable friend . Who had been her life for the last 16 years. And cradle him to his last breath. I pop round the next day to find her sitting on the floor going though his pictures. We hug we cryed and we remember him . His funny little ways. And how even when he was in great pain . He still wanted to play ball. I asked her if she had any regets about doing the one thing that she had been putting off for months. Her reply was yes. she had wished she had done it sooner .But she was glad she was with him at the end. And that she will always remember the way he looked as he went into his well deserved sleep. Contented,at peace And no pain. Rest well sweet Molly .
