Well its obvious none of you are with northumbria police Ive never heard so much

**** in my life that a lost licence would just be replaced without question,

I can just imagine the anti headline tomorrow STOLEN OR LOST GUN LICENCES

TOTALLY IGNORED AND REPLACED WITHOUT QUESTION BY LOCAL PLOD (GET REAL) it

obviously hasnt happened to you,,as for not being needed to buy ammo etc Id be

careful mentioning that on this site unless you still want a dealer to go to tomorrow.

And by the way lost and stolen licences do get reported to local dealers etc or they

did when I worked for three of them.Too many internet answer searchers and

dreamers offering duff advice on this site,I suggest you all chuck your firearms

licences in the bin then report them lost or stolen after 7 days and see what happens.

2Shots, is it nice in your little part of the universe :good:

My post on page 1 of the thread is a true account of what happened when i lost my license - the FAO had no worries what so ever about losing my ticket and replaced it without any fuss.

You sir are an Idiot

Sorry Bignoel but,

You need to report this straight away or the police can revoke the licence

altogether and remove your guns, if someone finds it and tries to use it before

they can put a stop on it youve got a problem if you have reported it ignore this,

if not youll need to be on the ball, and if someone else hands it in before its reported

itll cause you massive problems. A friend of mine got his stolen in a burglary which

ended up revoked because it should have been locked away with his guns and

not on the kitchen bench. :good:

what kind of stop do they put on a licence as thats a new one on me!

Being a photo licence that doesn't get checked when you buy ammo etc they are pretty useless without you there. Glad its been found but as said you have 7 days to report it but who is to say when you realised you had lost it. This post is mostly a case of chinese whispers as you don't have to keep it locked away and loosing it doesn't result in your guns being removed.

Exactly right. My question too (how do they put a stop on it?).

When did anyone last have the dealer who was supplying cartridges or a gun ever do anything other than look at the licsece and take a quick glance at your face to see if it was as ugly as the one on the picture? I never yet saw a dealer disappear with the license to check against a list in the back of the shop.

And as for 2shots comments about Northumbria Police - I have never found them anything but reasonable except in one long ago interaction when a Policeman of the force had been shotgunned by a license holder the week before. They are a picture of reasonableness and courtesy. I just don't understand the paranoia of some folks who think the cops have nothing better to do than catch them out over some minor fuax pas or technical infringement. Not up here they aren't. Their interest lies in making sure you aren't a jerk who can't be trusted to keep his firearms safe, a nutter who would really quite like to shoot the people he dislikes, or an irresponsible fool who is a danger to the public.

As for revoking the license because a guy lost it..... Pull the other one that man. Do you think they never lose a warrant card? They do. I found one, tracked the guy down and phoned him up so he could come and collect it. He was rather grateful at the way I handled it, rather than reporting that I'd found it in the street.

select features

scroll down left column to stolen licenses and gun register,

as used by gundealers/ traders and the like in the case of lost or stolen licences and firearms,

its a bit sad that people think theyre simply renewed and not recorded, and your right I havent

personally had any problems with northumbria licensing ,but I know plenty that have, but then

again theyre mostly idiots in thier own little universe that believe **** like this doesnt happen.

the standard defence in internet arguments is I know someone who had it happen, enough people have posted about what has happened to THEIR OWN licence when they lost it to give an idea its not a big deal. Licenses have photos on for a reason so if you don't match the photo they know its stolen or lost

There may be a register but I'm yet to have my details checked online when ever I've bought any ammo etc

Lost firearms on the other hand are another story and probably what has led to your aquaintances having problems with the plod as they take a very dim view of it

OK, here goes then "I know someone" yes, I do really do, in fact I know lots of people, but . .

This someone, lost his rifle bolt whilst stalking in Scotland.

Being fairly straight kind of guy, he decided to report it to the police.

They had no idea what he was talking about, so he went into great detail about how it wasn't a nut and bolt sort of bolt, and eventually they logged it.

He then turned the bothy and his car inside out and found it.

Relieved, he went back to to police to let them know they good news, by all accounts they went nuts and lectured him about being more careful etc etc.

So I think the moral is with any of these, is have a damn good look before, and then a few more besides, before you report it
