V8landy
Hi Looking to buy my first shotgun and have up to £700. Looking along the lines of U/O 28 - 30 " Wanted for mainly for rough / game shooting with the odd clays. Is this a resonable budget? What could I get? Anything In East Yorkshire? Thanks Edited October 1, 2008 by V8landy
Trussman
Save up a bit longer and try find a s/h Beretta, Miroku or Browning. Having said that, I'm perfectly happy with my cheap Lanber.

How much more would I need to save? Check out gun trader. Maybe another £150-200 to your budget. It must be frustrating when you've saved up for so long, but you'll be happy knowing you've got a quality gun. Alot of people I know have brought cheapo guns and later upgraded to a more expensive gun. It would have been cheaper for them if they'd just saved up for the more expensive gun in the first place. As I said, I'm not paticuraly bothered about appearance just performance.
V8landy
I have looked on gun trader, but nothing in my area (East Yorkshire) only guns upto £300! They are possibley not quite first class!
Trussman
Don't worry, mate. Keep searching. Also, if there's any gun you like, Registered Firearms Dealers can send the gun to an RFD near you for a small cost.
Emmsy
a browning miroku or beretta shouldnt cost you more than 700. i picked up a mint browning 325 that had been sat unused in someones cuboard for £510 buy second hand private as a dealer will want to make £100 out of you
paulos
If you are in East Yorkshire then it may be worthwhile having a trip over to York Guns, they have a good selection and will almost certainly have a Beretta/Browning/Miroku within your budget
casts_by_fly
On your way over to York gun, stop off in Pocklington. They had a few nice ones on the used rack when I was in 2 weeks ago. Thanks, Rick
Mungler
As has been said, any second hand multichoke Beretta 686 that has been looked after. £650 will the be the cheapest you will get one, upto £900 for nearly new with "bits" (case, chokes etc). They say you fall into 2 camps : Beretta or Browning / Miroku. I prefer Beretta - better balanced and more pointable IMHO.

Thanks, Rick I am having a trip out to both York Guns and Pocklington this Saturday. SGC is not yet here, but is a good thing because I can not impulse buy!!! Pro of shop is you feel you are less likley to end up with a Lemon Cons might pay about £100 more as has been said above.

Oly
Go try a few guns in your local If you do find your a Berretta man then snap Tom's hand off and get it sent up to your local RFD asap at that price. However, if you decide you fall in the Browning/Miroku camp keep looking and something should come up. I picked up my Miroku a couple of years ago for £800 (smart MK38 with teague chokes) - but I did have to travel somewhat for it too. Remember - good things in life don't come easy! tom_0787
Good idea Oly. Thats what i was going to suggest but i didnt want to appear to be pushing a sale! Thats what i did when I bought this gun. I went to a shop with a decent selection and tried a load of guns. I settled on the one i wanted then I went looking for one for sale privately. I would have felt a bit silly driving all the way up to chechire to find that the gun didnt suit me!

If I have SGC by then and you have not sold, could arrange? PM me.
