MC
Here are a couple of photo's of the 2 mallard I shot on my newly aquired flight ponds. I have only been feeding them for about a month but noticed the other night that were several duck using them. Myself and Robert (the guy who owns them) went down for a flight on sunday evening. There was not a breath of wind and the full moon was high in the sky. We took our places in the hides after a quick chat and it wasn't long before a shot rang out. I hadn't even seen them come in but I shot one on its way out. The next few circled a few times and then dropped in on the river than runs along the boundary. Then another pair came of which Robert shot one and its mate took off in the opposite direction to me. My second was one of a pair which flared out and dropped right in front of me, I shot the first with one barrel and then watched the other fly right over my head before remembering that I still had one cartridge in the gun. I fired but it was already on its way out and I missed cleanly. There were plenty of duckin the area and I have seen a few geese so maybe the sport will pick up a little when winter finally gets here. In the meantime I will keep feeding and keeping an eye on it. MC
Not really Dan, The only thing I have to pay for is the feed. I don't have enough spare hours to look for anymore.
Andy 01
Cheers Andy, No poaching on these ponds, you should know where they are Yea, I figure that was where they were. Have fun with it. Let the owner know I'm spotting a lot of mixy there at the moment. Obviously not something we deal with. Going to get Xmas out the way, and then will see about that shotty. I still would like to start when it gets going again in the new year.
MC
No problem at all, you are more than welcome. The rabbits I have seen down there in the evenings seem very healthy, they certainly do a runner when you drive down there.

Andy 01
Hmm, I tend to do early starts, and the last few weeks I keep coming across pooly ones. See if you can get a chance for an early walk round.
Teal
Always good to see drakes shot, it seems awfully late for them not to be fully coloured, either someone is releasing them or you have had some late broods this year.

Teal, That is what I thought, the ponds are less than quarter of a mile from Abberton resevoir where the fowl breed pretty much all year round. There always seems to be young birds on there. There is a few shoots as well within a few miles so it is possible that they are released ones

MC
Did you cook anything nice with them? Not yet, I pick them up from the game dealer tonight after he has plucked them for me. At £1.50 a bird and you get them back oven ready it isn't worth getting the bin bag out. One is going to be a crispy aromatic duck with pancakes and the other perhaps duck confit with the legs and who knows with the breasts?
