Cushat
These seem to be the two most popular moderators (aware the ASE has a bit of a following to, but it costs roughly 50% more so is a bit out of my price range). My understanding is some people have had corrosion problems with the T8 as it's mild steel and not strippable - so I was going to go with the wildcat - any reason not to? I'm curious as to why some people still recommend the T8 when a) you can't strip it even if you wanted to and b ) mild steel will corrode more easily than the stainless/alloy the wildcat is manufactured from. The wildcat looks like a no-brainer to me, but I've got a feeling I'm missing something?? Edited October 24, 2008 by Cushat

Baldrick
Like you I debated this. It has been done to death on the BBS too. The T8 is traditional, and yes, it can rust if it is neglected. However it is a solid unit, with no threads, seams and other potential weak points. The new T8 is shorter and thinner than its predecessors. I have not had corrosion problems with my two T8s. One or both of them is used almost every day, irrespective of the weather. All it takes is a good squirt of WD40 or Legia as soon as the rifle is back indoors.
steve_b_wales
I have 3 T8's on my rifles. Never had problems with them. After I use them I always give them a good squirt of WD40 inside. Let it soak a bit and then drain.
straightshooter1
Wildcat no brainer as you said you answered your own question I have plenty of shooting companions who's t8's have corroded
dogfox
id go for wildcat predator 8 anyday over the t8, you can strip it down to clean it!!, you cant do that with the t8, thus it gets all gunged up and effects accuracy

triscrx
I have a couple of pics to upload here of a T8 that will sway you away from a T8 hang on ill upload them.. I was going to get a T8 until I saw these a friend of mine had a T8 and stripped it to show me what happens to them.
pavman
I have the Wildcat on my .223, very pleased no problems and will fit up to a .243 if you so wish, so I guess if your lucky to own more than one Rifle you only need one Mod as long as you Zero them with the Wildcat
triscrx
In the 1st picture you can see the build up of rust this was after just 10 months of low use. and yes he did squirt WD40 down it after each shoot. Eventually it corroded through as you can see in the lower picture I have put a white background below it to highlight the holes. I wouldnt touch one no way. When you look at the internals it makes you realise what a waste of time spraying WD in there is anyway, The Wildcat would definately be my choice especially when you look at the small differance in choice, something that is strippable wins for me everytime, and the quality differance is like chalk and cheese. triscrx
If you imagine the WD40 getting sprayed in now. what does it achieve really! It wont even get into the outer compartment where the corrosion is at its worst on the mild steel. Wildcat for me everytime

njc110381
I'm a fan of the Wildcat myself. I think some of the T8 users may remember the first Wildcats from when the company started up, they had a few issues from what I'm told. Now they're up and running with a bit of experience behind them they're faultless IMO, and I have a Predator 8 on my 6.5x55 and .223. It strips easily and feels very well made. I know it's unlikely, but if you were to fall and plug a T8 with mud, imagine the fuss you'd have trying to get it all out! I see no sense in buying a solid unit when you can get one that strips for the same price
