huey
Looking for some opinions. I have been using 32g #6 shot for a while in the Eley Super Game and quite like their performance. However I have found them a bit lacking on crows and a failure in droppping pigeon's cleanly at 30/45 yards. Switched to #5's and have found them well capable, even at cleanly knocking a crow down at up to 50 yards. anyone else use 32g #5's........ Cushat
Any failure on a pigeon at 30 yards with any 32g #6 is with the person behind the barrels not the cartridge Any 30/32g no 6 on the market will consitently kill pigeons at 30yds if you're on target. Changing to no 5's won't make any difference other than in your head. Sorry

anser2
I am not being argumentive , but do you clearly know how far 30 yards is. As has been said almost any shell up to 8s should kill pigeons at 30 yards so maybe your perception of 30 yards in your head is a little further than reality. Get a pigeon flapper or a dead bird and set it out in a field at 30-40-50 paced yards and see what it looks like down your gun barrels. I think you might be surprised. Range judging can be difficult over differing landscapes. Across a bare field in good sunlight birds can look a lot closer than they realy are. Ask any wildfowler who shoots over open muds with no landmarks . Edited October 29, 2008 by anser2
al4x
the only differnce 5's will make is that if you are aiming slightly wrong and only a couple of pellets hit the pigeon you'll be more likely to bring it down as obviously they do hit harder. As said 6's will work fine as long as you're doing your bit. stretching range you'll find they are more effective but then I had good results on pigeons at 70 yards or so up but with BB's so its all relative

The old boy at Morston used to put us out on the peas with 50 cartridges (supplied by the farm) with a single barrel 12 guage BSA. He'd put 6 deeks and a few stuffed out, then a semi-circle of hazel sticks 30 yards out. "Shoot 'em on the ground, but never outside them sticks". We used to chew the cud wi'im in the Anchor afterward over a pint of Doris's Ben Truman! Edited October 29, 2008 by Whitebridges
huey
cheers for the advice anser, I have been shooting a number of years and I am quite aware of how far 30 yards is. I tend to stick my deeks out at 25 paces and hit birds as they fly into them or onto them. Will give both sizes a wirl again when I am next out and remain open minded of the outcome. urikastu
never had a problem with 32g 5's. My nephew and his brother had over 400 pigeons a couple of weeks ago. the only reason they didn't get more was that they ran out of cart's, this wasn't the first time and I doubt wether it will be the last! Greenhunter
Never use 32g only 30g or less.( but then I've always been tight) If you hit the mark its dead at 30yds whatever shot size and weight! Crows are notorious for carrying shot, sometimes seems like they're wearing flak jackets. Like the one a few months back,I knew I'd hit it but watched it fly off over the far side of the field when it just folded and dropped like a stone. stone dead when I picked it up minutes later! Paced it back and it was about 200yds from the hide!
