Hunter2
CCI Hypervelocity .22 40gr 1435fps rounds, anybody used them and how if they differ from say winchester subsonic 40gr super x 1050fps round
stevethevanman
One word "DONT", they are awful compared to a good quality subsonic round, I tried stingers and they were all over the show, yes they do hit very hard as far as 22lr's go but, a sub will still down them every time Steve And I am serious couldnt even get 1" at 60yds

Zapp
One word "DONT", they are awful compared to a good quality subsonic round, I tried stingers and they were all over the show, yes they do hit very hard as far as 22lr's go but, a sub will still down them every time I got a slack handful of stingers off a friend, and whilst they were pokey (boy were they pokey! ) the groups were horrible - three times the size I get with Eley or RWS subs, and that is not counting the crazy fliers . As a very knowledgeable man once said "Power is nothing without accuracy". IMHO, a sub round that your rifle likes, fieldcraft and rounds down range (so you can gauge holdover/under) will put far, far more in the bag up to 100 yards than a super-zippy, wildly innacurate round ever will. Hunter2
Thanks guys, anybody got any views on my other post regarding .17 hmr rounds?
rec-baller
i tried some stingers in my 10/22,, god they were noisy and would,nt group. i them read that if you have a problem with youre rifle and try to claim on the warranty, if you admit to using stingers/hypervelocity rounds through it it will in-validate youre warranty !!!! shaun
A Sick Old Man
I would not recommend using .22rf high velocity rounds, they do not group and they bounce like Flubber I certainly would not use them in a semi auto, to much of a slap for your action to take. However they appear to do nothing better than Eley or Winnie subs despite making enough noise to waken the dead and do not seem to expand particularly well. stevethevanman
well my winchesters at 60-7-yds consistenty fly through rabbits on broadside chest shots, also if, and that is a gigantic IF, if you you hit the rabbit with a stinger it will shread the meat and commonly even from a chest shot the intestines still burst sooooo........you really just spending more, making your self more work and also wasting money because they are so **** they dont even group.... Hunter2
Steve,no you are not wrong the winchesters and eleys go straight through head shot bunnys at 60/70 yrds,I was told the CCI Hypervelocity .22 40gr 1435fps rounds were a little louder,by all accounts they are a lot louder.I only purchased a 100. i`ll give em a go on saturday let you know how i get on. In my mind if i didnt try other rounds i would never know how they shoot, after thought should have asked on here first as i dont have a problem with winchesters or eleys, same price as the eleys and winchesters at 4.90 for
THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
I've tried 8 different types of HV's & now gone back to Eley subs. Nuff said.
Lloyd90
Are we talking "Stinger Rounds" or "High velocity". I thought the stingers were more high velocity than the regular high velocity ones! Just give them a try if you want to. It wont do any harm. I have a few stingers I shall be giving a try although to be honest will also be sticking to the subs:)
casts_by_fly
big thug, He is asking about velocitors. They are almost as fast as a stinger but have a 40 gr bullet. Velocitors were my round of choice back in the states. Back home, ammo is cheap and you can have as much as you want. So I routinely kept 2-4 boxes of 8-10 different brands and types of ammo around. Moderators aren't used so subs don't do much for most people. Velocitors were the second best grouping round from my gun (second to federal match) and hit a lot harder and shot flatter than the federals so that's what I shot. My dad has almost the identical gun and his gun has always shot CCI mini mags. When I moved over here, I had the barrel cut down by 4" and threaded. Now the gun likes CCI green tags and Remington subs. It will shoot the others, but not as well anymore. Same gun, just a shorter barrel. Long story short, you have to find what your gun likes. Some rimfire ammo is more consistent which will always make for better shooting. However, consistently bad is consitently bad. If your gun doesn't like Lapua match (some very consistent ammo) then it isn't worth shooting. Best bet is to find someone or a few mates who shoot various brands of ammo and give them all a try. Shoot a 10-shot group at 50 yards and measure it. That will give you a pretty good idea how that ammo shoots from your gun. If you are up this way, I have a bunch of CCI stuff that you can try. Thanks, Rick
