Lloyd90
I was wondering if you can go to a clay shooting ground on a day when there is NOT an organised shoot on and shoot there ? Like if you took some clays of your own and a clay thrower and used the grounds ? Do you need permission for this ? Do you NEED to be a club member ? Incase anyone knows it, its the shooting quarry in St. Brides! Appreciate any help
GJUK
Phone them to find out? I'm sure they'll welcome new members with open arms... The one I go to in Nottingham (have been 4 times now) costs me £30 per 1 to 1 session. Jon
paulos
Yes you would need permission!! If you just turned up and start shooting you would end up in serious bother If you want to shoot there, turn up when there IS an organised shoot on, you will be warmly welcomed I'm sure. There are very few grounds which insist on being a member to shoot, guests are almost always welcome Edited December 2, 2008 by paulos
Lloyd90
Who would be the owner of the shooting ground ? It would be good to go there on a shoot day but also wondering about going on your own to practice. Guessing you still need permission. Would you be allowed ? Or can you ONLY shoot there on the sessioned days ? I have found the number so will go down and probally do a shoot with them. Although I was just wondering like if you could go to a clay shooting ground and do some shooting practice when your available, not when its the set days. I have seen in America they have sort of "open ranges" where you can go with your own trap n gun and use. I havent seen anything like that and was wondering if things like that were available. blackbird
Why dont you ask the farms you shoot on if you can do a bit of clay shooting there
Lloyd90
I did do a bit on one, but its not that far away from houses. About 500 metres maybe. With repeated gun shots they like to call the plod to come out there nothing plod do because Im allowed to be there but its kind of annoying! Plus leaves a good mess (I always clean up after) Would just be easier to go to a clay ground n shoot. If anyone has been to St Brides Major Quarry you will know there are literally MOUNTAINS of broken clays and shells so It wouldnt be any bother, just need permission! paulos
Because it is a clay ground, doesn't mean you can freely turn up and do as you will. There are set days for shooting for a reason. Safety, insurance, restrictions on amounts of days shooting etc. You will be more than welcome to turn up and practise when they are open provided you are safe. Not all clay shoots are competitive. Methinks the owner would take exception to somebody asking to use HIS ground which he looks after and runs, who doesn't want to pay his way. clayman
If you just turn up at land to shoot on non-shoot days, chances are you will be in breach of planning law. Most casual shoots take place on agricultural land under the General Development Order 28 day allowance. This allows the farmer to use the land for 28 days in a year for other purposes, including clayshooting. Most of these shoots will shoot every other weekend, with maybe boxing day and another special thrown in to use up the full 28 days. So, if you pitch up on the same land and shoot other days, the total use will exceed the planning allowance, and full planning permission for the extra shooting days will be needed. On the 29th day you need planning permission. Your point is just stupid, and your just looking for an online argument In America they do have clay grounds open to public and you can go to with your own trap and such and use when your free Whats so ridiculous sounding about that ? Not everyone is available on the same days at the same times! Heres one example http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-fYK7tiqURE They are pretty clearly not on a shoot day like we have here, yet there are facilities available for them to use! There's no need to just start having a go at me for asking a question when I just showed it is done in some places, is it that mind boggling ? To Clayman, thanks for the post. Atleast it wasnt just a troll post. I see the point your making with that. I dont think the land I had in mind was farm land anyways (It's an old quarry) But if its in breach of the planning permission then best not be there ey
