maddog546
After reading some of the exceptional post from some of you other Vulpine hunters it spark the notion that I should have a go,so lets see how we go. I got home from work this evening feeling the need to get some cold night air in my lungs again,as like many it seems this Christmas I have been laid low with the flu for the last 3 weeks. All those lovely crisp nights where have I been, yeah like a whimp curled up my the fire with a box of tissues and an appetite of a shrew! Whilst bring in the usual stock of wood for the wood burner so that the missus can have her corn beef legs,my attention was drawn to a dog fox calling on the hills behind my home, thats it I off I thought! Tea was soon serve and fed and water the gun was taken from the cabinet, batteries strapped to my waist and into the truck I climb with the knowledge of hopefully where I could find my first victim of the year! On arriving at the first farm out across the hill I made my way certain that that fox should not be too far away but after 20 minutes of calling nothing, not even a rabbit wanted to play on the frozen ground,oh well off to the next farm about a quarter of a mile away and the same story, feeling dispondent I travel a little further towards town and on to yet another farm, out across the fields I go again, with the thought that they obviously have other ideas on their minds. After a quick call I shine around but no eyes are looking back, now doubt is setting in and the notion that perhaps they have retired to bed early as the temperature is starting to fall again, just the I hear a snipe lift off and give out his distinct tone of being disturbed then another and another. Now me thinks to myself what has disturbed them, well there can only be one answer and with that a large fox bolts through the gateway and is rapidly searchin the field for his free meal,Oh boy has he got a surprise coming if only he knew, after quartering the field at a vast rate of not he heads straight for me and I'm starting to think he might have to be taken on the run, when he stops and seems t sense something is wrong and sowly sidles off to the run over the corner of the hedge. Nows my chance as he searches for his exit and as I bring the scope to bear I think he's not that clear to see, just then he turns full on to me and I sieze the moment and send my Norma 223 Ballistic to him, down like a stone he goes. On arriving at his location I see why he was so hard to see and as long as the photos upload ok so will you, talk about disappearing into the foot of the hedge ,he was a perfect match colour wise, mind you at first I thought it was a chinese panda. Full of enthusiasm now I set of for the bigger farms but after covering another450 acres it appears I shot the only poor sod out tonight,Oh well the temperature is climbing at the weekend so lets hope their up for it then,Good hunting to you all, Keith

Highlander
Nice fox, well done. Like a lot of animals colour isn't fixed, I've seen foxes almost all black (in Highlands) and some almost cream. Red is just more normal.
