webber
BASC LAUNCHES JOBSEEKERS' CONCESSION MEMBERSHIP 27 February 2009………………………………………………immediate release Sporting shooters, who are currently claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, will be able to save some money when they join BASC or renew their membership after 1 March 2009. The new Jobseekers’ Concession membership fee will mean that full members will only have to pay £29 for 2009/10. The holders of joint memberships will be charged £44 (being a £29 Jobseekers’ Concession plus £15 for the second joint member); families will be charged £79 being £44 for the adults and £35 for all their children under 18. These rates will only apply if members can demonstrate current entitlement to Jobseekers’ Allowance. BASC chief executive, John Swift, said: “BASC recognises that while the UK economy is in recession some of its members may find themselves in special financial need after losing their jobs. We have been listening to what our members are telling us and believe introducing this concession may go a little way in helping members who are currently out of work.†The full terms and conditions of the Jobseekers’ Concession can be viewed by clicking here. steve_b_wales
A kind gesture. I am working but find the annual fee expensive when taken in one go. I asked 2 years ago why the membership fee cannot be split and paid twice yearly, even if there was a small amount added for bank charges. I was told (then) that 'it's going to be introduced'. I'm still waiting. Edited February 27, 2009 by steve_b_wales
Lloyd90
- The amounts payable in future years will reflect any changes that are made to the level of other BASC subscription rates. So you have to pay more next year to make up for it ??

Not everyone wants to sit at home all day every week doing nothing Some of us (Like Myself) would be more than happy to be out EARNING some money, but when you cant find a job and you have no bloody income its not exactly easy to get by on £47.87 a week

dustyfox
Thanks Dusty Not everyone wants a benefits lifestyle its not directed at you, you daft sod , its about BASC charging less for not having a job. It was aimed at BASC. I think if you were on job seekers allowance BASC or other shooting organisations wouldn't be on the budget because its not a priority. So I think its another mindless act by the BASC. Why couldn't they give a discount to all current members and potential members? even if its just £5 This is why so many people are not working they get discounts and everything at a lower price, while the people who work have to pay more to stay in work. Im on about the ones that dont want to work by the way Edited February 27, 2009 by dustyfox

mudpatten
Perhaps I`ve missed something here, but surely the point of the reduction, a well meaning gesture, is to assist those who find themselves unexpectedly unemployed due to the current economic crisis rather than being aimed at the long term benefit abusers. For the majority of wildfowling clubs BASC membership is mandatory and the opportunity to keep on fowling through hard financial times will be welcome by many. If the current crisis deepens we could see a steep decline in fowling club membership which could ultimately lead to the collapse of clubs. This far sighted action by BASC makes that scenario far less likely and I for one, welcome it. BASC did not cause the implosion of the banking system, but recognising the possible long term effects, and doing something constructive about it, shows a clear commitment to member retention and is a sensible reaction to hard times. The alternative, which some appear to favour, would be to ignore economic reality and watch BASC, and the future of field shooting, slowly bleed to death. I say "Well done BASC." Anyone got a better idea?

fullbore
O wonder how many of the workshy scroungers you are directing your anger towards, actually shoot, or are members of BASC. I think this is a brilliant gesture by BASC to try and help those who due to the current climate find themselves out of work, and hopefully with the concession will still be able to join BASC, therefore be insured and thus able to continue with their pastime, otherwise life would be grim indeed. Well done for being in touch BASC
ChrisNicholls
Perhaps I'm being cynical but I see this more of an exercise to keep members that suddenly find themselves out of work from joining organisations with lower fees. dustyfox
What im trying to say, is if I was unemployed getting job seekers allowance, whether i dont want to work or been made redundant but wanting to work, would getting BASC membership be on the £45 a week budget? no. even if I wanted to go wildfowling I would wait till I find another job. Paying bills and food is the top priority not BASC membership. So thats why I see it as pointless.

I keep getting phone bills, and a mortgage to pay. As im hard up, will they do me a discount for cash?

And whats wrong if that is the case? BASC serves all of us, those in and those out of work, by representing loads of us. If membership dropped drastically, they wouldn't carry as much clout and we would all suffer
