Dive bombed

Shooting today over some spring drillings. Not much about unfortunately for us

Then I saw one of the few to commit to the decoys coming straight in towards me. Saw it quite late and by the time I had the gun up and on it it was only about 10yds out :/ So I squeezed of the shot, hit it but didn't blast it to pieces as you might expect :good: It must have tried to go over the trees behind us but just didn't make it  Instead it came straight over the top of the hide, missing the net by inches and there I am still sitting down right in its trajectory

I had to put my hand up to stop it hitting me squarely in the chest ??? Hurt like hell but didn't have to walk far to pick it

Has this happened to anyone else? I've had them close before but never a direct hit

Set up on a field of rape in Febuary, pigeons just wern't coming in, methinks it was because of a light cover of snow.

The pigeons were going into a small wood, I reckon they were waiting on the snow melting.

Got into the woods, set up a small camo net in front of me.

Most of the birds were pretty high coming in.

I shot one directly overhead, must have been 30 - 40 Mtrs up, dead as a door ****, anyway, this pigeon dropped out of the sky like a brick and missed me by a foot or so, I am convinced that if it did hit me it would have cracked me skull or broken a shoulder.

Scarey.

When I was a teenager i was tide flighting on the sea wall on the Wash when I shot a very high crow. It took an age to fall and to late I realised it was going to hit me and it did on the head. I had a very near miss on the dog once when she ran in to the first half of a very high right and left at pink feet. The second slumped down at her feet as she started back splatering her with mud.

A couple of seasons ago a couple of mates were flighting canada geese. One of them shot a goose while the other was about to fire at another. The goose hit him on the leg knocking him over . He could not walk for a couple of days after.

It seems like this shooting lark can get fairly hazardous at times!

Most people probably don't realise the potential damage a falling bird can do

until it happens to them.I know I've read somewhere that pheasants and grouse have claimed numerous victims.

Usually the loader as he's not looking at the birds :D

Thanks for the contributions all. Very interesting reading!
