why isnt the Government stopping these foreign companies from causing jobs loses  but no, gordon clown would rather prop up banks riddled with debt.

If you have enough cash to get through until june then take this as an opportunity to have a break and enjoy yourself. Keep an eye on that job though mate and have a backup plan as anything can change between now and then. :good:

Sign of the times I'm afraid. I've just been through the same but from the other side of the fence - having to make people redundant as part of my job. You are very lucky you have a job to go to, as some of the people that I've let go have nothing and I mean nothing -house repos and the like. I would enjoy the rest and thank your stars.

I'm more worried than the wife, she says have a couple of months shooting fishing. Its just ive never been out of work. The job i have lined up is on a farm until nov i was keeper on there till the shoot folded.I'm hoping to go with contracters lifting sugar beet when that finishes. At least i won't have to get up at 4am for a while

I'm in the same boat mate but competing with afghans polish Latvians for a job under the TUPE law, the nearest place to follow the work under the tupe law is over twice the distance that i normally travel so i may be forced to take redundancy, i got 30 days notice .

Its about time we had another blame the Ploish / Latvians / Lithuanians post. Having to travel twice the distance to work = being forced to take redundancy ? Yep, thats the Poles fault all ends up.

when i got made redundant it was either take pay cut or get out, i couldnt afford to take a cut. The reasoning was due to cheaper EU workers. luckily i got another job before the recession.

Dont blame british workers for their anger towards EU workers, Italy etc dont even let eastern europeans work there at the minute.

I think the main thing is that you do have a job lined up to go to, just enjoy the time off, and as long as you can pay the bills with you redundancy money until then, dont worry.

Made a few of my Team redundant ove the past few years and not a nice thing todo, alone be the person getting the chop.

Tomorrows talk will be just to confirm that you will be made redundant officaly from the company and you may get asked some questions if you have a HR dept, then get youself home and take the Mrs out and enjoy yourselves

All the best

I was told something once - get your education and then no-one can take it away.

As you've trained mate, even though you are being laid off and have a job to go to dont be scared - i'm nearly 30 (work in Project/property management - building side) and have been made redundant 3 times in 6 years. Every time l've been in your position, pooping myself - end of June you could be thinking 'i wish l'd moved sooner' The good thing is (now l refer to my opening statement) you are trained (certified) therefore when work ramps back up you stand in better stead than some Afgan/Pole that will be looking to go for a management position - Trouble is with these poles etc. they are not all qualified (and whilst some companies take a flier in employing them) when the Shiet hits the fan you'll be standing in good stead. I work for Adecco too mate l should add - l know these things!

I really feel for you ,Rob, the worry of going thru any major change is bad enough let alone when you have no control over it.I realise that its hard to find a positive side to some situations but they do sometimes occur.Have you considered a complete career change?-you might be surprised at what you could enjoy doing if, say, you had no choice.I wont bore you with too many details of my situation but after 25 years as an engineer i found myself in your shoes and eventually took a job as a school caretaker-now i wish i had done it years ago.Try relaxing during your time off and take a good look around you-there is usually plenty of support agencies that can help you-try them all as its what they get paid for.If you think of this as the start of something potentially life changing (for the better i hope) then it perhaps wont seem so bad.The very best of luck to you and enjoy your time to yourself-bruno.

For anyone loosing their job get yourself down the job centre and sign on as soon as you can.

I lost my job, was told i was being paid my notice and hols, but I waited for my pay and P45 then signed on. Just been told i was not entitled to the dole as I had not signed on quick enough and not reached their job market conditions. I got the grand total of £21 for being out of work for 3 weeks.

I rang up and enquired why i had been turned down and was told I should have signed on immediately even though I had not got my P45 yet! I politely asked how come all these foreigners get our money then? and was told each application was judged on its own merit!!!

I was told I could appeal and explain my circumstances as my P45 was delayed etc, so I am going to appeal for the hell of it but dont hold my hopes up.

I was lucky I got another job but found the job centre, DWP staff a waste of space.

mate, i know losing the feeling of security by being employed by a company for so long must be very scary, but hey, 22 years, you must be getting a 'fat' pay off package and you have another job lined up. Enjoy your time off, the weather is improving, the days are getting longer, get out there and shoot pigeons for 2 months! Good luck mate
