dazza
83 pigeons that's about half the pigeon population in n.ireland, whats' the rest of us going to shoot in June.? Good shooting Exactly, that's why there's nothing come June/July. There's loads down my way at the minute because nobody is out shooting them. There not causing any bother so there left alone. Although you are entitled to shoot them if you want. What did you do with them?
Big Al
Good shootin' dazza - although I have to say I couldn't shoot them in NI this time of year. It's a personal thing, and not a criticism. Each to their own.

Big Al
Sorry dazza. I meant Dr D. I got my d's mixed up.
Dr D
each to their own indeed. I stop shoot them about now and wait till late august september when they are all out of the nest. Others, I note, can't wait to shoot them in June/July. But sure, as you say, each to their own.
Ballymac
Everyone in N.Ireland only shoots pigeons to protect the farmers crops. As they were doindg damage on the spring barley they were controlled and rightly so. Come June July they start hitting the tramlines and casuing damage and the farmer wants us to control them again. So as long as we keep the farmer happy that's the important thing. Its' not aboout sport in any way and no one needs to get touchy about it
Dr D
cheers Ballymac. I sensed as little criticism in few of the comments. like you say if there doing damage then they need to be sorted out. The farmer in question was sowing two fields away for most of the day. He was more than happy to see me there, and, if hadn't of done it, it wouldn't be too long before he asked somebody else.
tweedledee
hope i did n`t come across critical in any way mate. there would be a lot less crops in co. antrim as compared to down so thats why i think there are n`t as many woodies around here. Dr D
we had big numbers here before Christmas, but they wouldn't come in the deeks - far to much barely lying on teh stubbles afater the bad summer last year. Saturday was the first descent bag I have had since October. It had been a pretty poor year for me up until then.

Ballymac
No probs Dr D and if you need a hand with those pigeons.... have car will travel Have seen an increase in the amount of pigeons around the area, but no real opportunities to get at them. Have seen small flocks on the clover, but not on my permission. Not be long to the silage is being cut, what with all this good "GROWING WEATHER" we have had then I will get a go at the crows. Dr D
don't know. I usually have too many people wanting them to even consider a game dealer. I crowned all the birds and stuck them in the freezer. As I said, I won't probably be out again until the barley is cut (unless asked by a farmer). Those birds will keep me going until then. just bought a wee cocker pup to keep me busy over the next while.

Ballymac
are there any game dealers in N.ireland who will take pigeons ?. I have one restaurant who will take a few but the rest are distributed amoung people I have converted so to speak. Was in the Ballyrobin restaurant, the one at the end of the runway at the int. airport. They had pigeon on the menu and asked where they got their pigeon from, chef came out and told me. Was a few years ago but I remember the company were based in Fermanagh? but can't remember the name. aNY ONE KNOW OF DEALERS THEN, just on the off chance that I get to shoot decent numbers before the year is out
