the list on the general licence mate, as long as you have reason to kill them, except for foxes, hares and deer obviously. I would do some accuracy and penetration tests at the ranges you want to shoot from. People use bars of soap or clay or something to give an idea of the penetration you will get at different ranges. probably lot of stuff on here and youtube showing you how.

By itself he pellet will not kill anything.. And that is a loaded question you ask  We have many variables here? What is your skill level? Is this a FAC air rifle? And type of pellet? Obviously, the larger game would require more energy, and bullet with greater mass, but first and foremost is your prowess.. I have hunted with rifles for over 30 years, and i have actually created a mental check list that i go through prior to making that shot.. Besides i am not sure as to what other critters you might be thinking about? I believe most of what is shootable is Vermin? I do not know if this has helped  Cheers dude

I wouldnt really consider a pheasant airgun quarry.

Foxes are a no no unless your have a FAC air rifle and even then i would say you were under gunned.

Assuming you have permission to shoot over some land have you considered a shotgun?

A rabbit is as big as you want to attempt with an air rifle

You need 4 ftlb of energy to kill a rabbit cleanly with a headshot, a 12 ftlb gun will have more than enough to kill a rabbit at 70 yrds but unless you can place the pellet correctly your going to wound them.

25-35 yrds max

many years ago i was out with a mate shooting and as we were walking back to the car a fox stepped right out in front of us at least 25 yards away if not more-my buddy fired at it with his original 45 in .22 and it dropped stone -dead-not suggesting anyone tries it by any means but i have definately seen it done.

I have an FAC 'friend' who I consider to be an out and out nasty killer af anything unlucky to move in the land. He believes he has put down a fox with a logan penetrator with a non FAC rifle - WITH A HEART SHOT!!!

I dont believe you should consider any shots to such an animal as a fox with a sub 12 air rifle.

Look at it through the cross hairs, practice stalking but never take a shot that will probably wound, cause infection and a slow death.

Us non FAC air gunners need to look after ourselves as well as the wildlife. Dont bring scorn and hatred upon us. Rats, rabbits, crows, squirrels and woodies to name the main ones. We have enough pests to look after without these larger lovely animals that require a definate stronger shot.

i totally agree carbon

would not ever shoot a fox anyway....far to much like a dog for my liking!!!

just stalk and aim....but dont fire that would always be the case for me!

well apart from things like pigeons which i tend to have a general dislike for!

and rabbits which taste GOOD!

lol

:) ok..ive just tried that bar off soap think at 20yards and then at 40 and the hobby flathead pellet went straigh through both times?

Those are a decent enough target pellet for punching paper but really not the sort of thing for the ranges you are talking about. Use a dome/diablo and see your groups improve no end.

The toughest quarry that you can shoot with a 12 ft/lb air rifle is a squirrel - they're ard as nails!

In my opinion they taste the best too. For those who haven't sampled one - give it a go if you can stomach peeling one. They are sold in top restaurants.

Shooting a fox with an air rifle will have 3 effects - the fox will suffer, you have a good chance of being arrested and all us airgunners will be tarred with the same brush and could ultimately lose our hobby.

Leave the foxes alone or get a powder burning rifle if you do have to deal with one.

Sadly enough, a 12ft/lbs air gun could potentially kill any animal at point blank range, it's just about placing it in that 'perfect spot'

Stick to rabbits and pigeons and get a proper gun before you even contemplate killing anything else. As it sounds like you're after some advice on what you can shoot next.

airssassin, magpies will take on a squizzer any day

Mr. Anonymous shot 2 with a 22lr (so not air rifle) - chest shot (before you say he wasn't shooting in the right place) - knocked feathers out and it flew away! 'ard as nails they is. Don't quite believe it but he was adamant.

Anyway, air rifles - not for foxes!

I'd stick to corvids, bunnies, squirrels, rats and pigeons. 40 yards max after lots of practice.
