Baldrick
My family have been shooting things for centuries, so I just accepted it. It's virtually compulsory for all Norfolkmen to be skilled with firearms before they're potty trained. I enjoy the solitude of deer stalking, the banter on a day's decoying or game shooting, and the privilege of watching some amazing spectacles and seeing some sublime landscapes. I also have a lifelong, nerdish love of the science and technology of shooting. It's not a hobby - shooting, for me, is an all-consuming passion. I'm also a farmer and countryman bred and born, so shooting to me just seems a natural thing to do. It also gets me away from Mrs Baldrick. Not really much of an achievement when you think most of them manage to be potty trained by the age of 26.

I was going to make a comment about the Harnser still not being potty trained in my post, MC, but thought better of it.
Chard
i like guns and being outdoors I used to do a lot of sea fishing, but I seem to have less and less spare time these days. Fishing is an all-day effort, especially from Manchester , whereas you can go shooting if you've only got 2 or 3 hours spare Edited May 27, 2009 by Chard

njc110381
When I was a lad I had a great interest in few things. Blowing stuff up was fun, and I liked being outside fishing etc. It was only natural that guns were going to fall into place somewhere, they could break stuff without me needing to be close to it so were great! From that I grew up to still like the outdoors and nature. Blowing stuff up got me into lots of trouble so shooting was a more accepted hobby. I had air rifles until a couple of years ago then went in for the bigger stuff. Luckily as a grew up I got more mature and gained some respect. In case you're worried I'm now fully trustworthy with a gun. I have to say though a good hit on a clay with the 12g or coke can full of water with the rifles still brings back the "break stuff" part of my childhood and I love it. The fact that my bigger rifles will drill through a railway sleeper and keep going just amazes me. I'm like a dog with two ***** since I got my FAC

Toombsy
My dad's a keen wildfowler and clay shot, and I was brought up with all that. I always remember the smell of damp dogs, wax jackets and freshly fired shells. So almost everything me and my dad did together involved either walking the dogs on the marsh, spending Sunday mornings at a clay ground or just being in the great outdoors in general so it was a natural progression for me. I was happy with that... I didn't want to hang around with the ********* in the village who were into football, hanging around in town/outside MacDonalds or talking the same old rubbish in the pub every night. I gave up for many years and turned to fishing, but saw the light a couple of years ago and that's it now... I ain't turning back!
