Vince Green
Is it just me? The cost of bullets in particular are going mad. Cheap bog standard Sellier and Bellot 174grn bullets for reloading my .303 are now £20 a hundred at Bisley. I was paying that for Sierra Matchkings this time last year but they are now about £33-35 a hundred. Primers and powder all going the same way. I've checked a few other websites like Peter Lawman's and his prices are all up as well Why? The bloke behind the counter said it was the cost of lead and brass but thats cobblers. We sold several sacks of brass cases recently and got peanuts for it, much less than we would have got a couple of years ago. Lead is the same. Bazooka Joe
Yep, I've noticed as well, specially Hornaday Bullets, namely the V-Max are getting a price hike, BJ.
Sauer
the cost of metals and demand went rocketing before the bejing olympics coz the chinese increased demand therefore prices rocketted ...but that was 18 month 2 yrs ago we were given this reason in the press and now price per ton is decreased i believe so why are bullets and catridges increasing instead of decreasing in line with prices? sauer

shooterash
I asked the same question and was told it was because the pound is weak againts the Doller. How true this is I don't know but reloading is still slot cheaper. Cheers Ash
coupe312
the problem is most of the raw metal was purchased at the high prices on the lead copper and brass even steel up to the olympics. Until the stock of high price materials has gone or produces... we stuck with the high prices. plus euro exchange rate. a few big process have fallen foul of this and found that there process materail is worth less that what they paid for the raw material
Aldous Huxley
I asked the same question and was told it was because the pound is weak againts the Doller. How true this is I don't know but reloading is still slot cheaper. Cheers Ash This man speaks the truth. Any reduction in raw material cost has been offset and then some by the weakening of the pound t the sterling. Currently google tells me it is 1.6349 dollars to a pound. For a long time it was almost 2.00 dollars for a pound, thus almost a 17.5% decrease in our buying ability to some extent explains the increase in price. However as others have mentioned, there may well be an element of profiteering. Like gas companies I guess, round manufacturers are quick to pass on increases, but lag when it comes to decreases. Jamesshot
I got into steel when I lived in Sweden for a couple of years. We're geting our shot from www.steel-shot.com. I think they're based in Yorkshire. We email the guy our quantity and he usually does us a deal. It's really shiny and pretty cheap, its helped keep our costs down deffo. Hope this can help somebody

Peter De La Mare
You obviously work for them. That's two different websites you've visited in the last 24 hours, joining both of them as a new user, and posting the same info and plugging the same service in multiple threads. BlaserF3
Well spotted Peter. Steel shot should be banned.
Mr_Logic
Reloading is now costing a load of cash, people blame the exchange rates but they're back to something sensible now. I blame profiteering distributors, and also the firearms regs for limiting the number of shooters = no competition = **** takes from distys and dealers! hawkeye
Myself and 2 mate decided to start reloading so we checked the price of lead absolutely ridiculous so as steel cartridges were selling at the clay ground cheaper checked out there price, steel shot was even more expensive than lead.. But now have a source for lead at just £44 for 20kilo...with free postage if you buy in bulk... :ermm:
Floating Chamber
Lead went over $2000 dollars today. I was told by someone in the know at the bus dismantlers, that the Chinese are offering 30% over the scrap price. They are buying up scrap materials and see it as a better investment than banks. I suppose that is why I bought half a tonne of lead ballast today, to see me through the winter. Some 130,000+ tonnes are listed (LME) and NONE is available. Vince Green
The lead in a bullet is only a minimal part of its cost yet some bullets like S&B are nearly treble what they were selling for a couple of years ago. The real costs are manufacturing and shipping. They haven't gone up. Powder too, Alliant Rloader 15 is now £36 a tub, That works out to 21p a 40grn load in my .303. Add 20p for the bullet and 2.5p for the primer and it comes 43.5p for a reload. I can buy factory Privi Partisan for 46p. If I want to go upmarket and use Sierra matchkings it works out at 57p a reload. Hardly worth all that work sizing, trimming, tumbling the cases, weighing ot the powder etc is it? Dunkield
I wonder if there is an up to date site gunshops use with the latest answers to the 'why is this stuff so expensive now' question? The Olympics is a new one on me, the 'War on Terror' one has obviously been used too many times so they had to invent a new one
