Pykie
Saturday evening the wind was blowing a gale so thought I would have a mooch and see if I could catch out a pigeon or two going to roost. A few clattered out on my arrival and loading up the Lincoln 28 bore, I checked the small pond first in case of a mallard. Spying through the ferns, only a Heron was present. Taking the precious bismuth out of the chambers and replacing with lead, as I went to leave, a woodcock burst from the brambles. A snap shot left a cloud of feathers and a nice retrieve for my Sprocker. First one of the year and my first with a 28 bore. I settled under some oaks from the drizzle and wind and had some awesome shots at incoming pigeons. I had no chance of a double barrel as they used the wind to drift out of range with the first shot. Ended up with five, one of which was killed at an incredible height before it got dark. Fiocchi 24gm 5s were the cartridge today. Gave a brace to a neighbour so this is tomorrow's tea sorted. Whitebridges
Well done on the 'cock. Now the leaves have fallen we had our first roost shoot of the season after the pheasants and shot close to 50 or so in the last half hour. Underdog
Spot on, it's a gauge by the way :-)
Lloyd90
Spot on, it's a gauge by the way :-) Gauge as the calibre ? I thought a bore is also perfectly correct eg 12 bore / 12 gauge shotgun, gauge being a more American term ?

The use of a constant such as lead in the form of spheres the number of which make a pound in weight is the gauge used to obtain a nominal bore diameter. First used by English makers when fancy measuring devices and CNC machines did not exist. U.
Rimfireboy
Good shooting Mark. Is the Lincoln 28 a new purchase influenced by your good results with the little 28 auto?
Pykie
Good shooting Mark. Is the Lincoln 28 a new purchase influenced by your good results with the little 28 auto? No I only borrowed it from a mate, I want to find a nice 30" barrel 28 now, either a Lincoln or similar as I do shoot well with it
