The recent implementation of the result of a review of Firearm certification instigated by the police demanding massive hikes in fees, where a small increase in fees was agreed and new "conditions" were imposed on certificate holders........However potential positive benefits for shooters (and the licensing authorities!) of a ten year certificate seems to have been kicked into the long grass? So unless BASC et al can explain otherwise? our shootings representative organisations have accepted our paying more money, for the same long waits for grants/ renewals and more onerous certificate conditions......but have left the table without any benefit to shooters and shooting such as a ten year certificate? Davyo Posted January 17, 2017 Report Share Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) In the current state of licensing at the moment it's ridiculous to even think of it.They need to get their house in order before having a total overhaul of the licensing infestucture.Just look at the recent posting on here,missing fire arms off registers etc.The last 7yrs it's been dramatically gong down hill to the point where their incompetence could put an end to shooting full stop.They are there to reassure the general public lol,if only they knew. I personally think it should stay at 5yrs,10 yrs is a long time for someone's mental state to change unchecked (and could be avoiding the quack).And this crazy visit over the phone thing "is you cabinet still in the same place and you still got the same guns" eh "yes but why don't you get off your fat **** and come and check it" and they think that's public reassurance! panoma1 Posted January 17, 2017 Author Report Share Posted January 17, 2017 Yes Davyo, but that just hides the inefficiencies, incompetence and failures the police have with firearm licensing, from the general public....and the shooting community continues to pay up and suffers in silence for it!..........that way it will never improve! We are still in the EU and they want more regulations because of the severe terrorist issue they face. Yes we have had one or two high profile cases in the last 40yrs, but far more, probably a hundred times more cases of deaths caused by the driving of motor cars and until the age of 70yrs you have a lifetime license. I am now over 70 and have to re new my driving license every five years, why is that. The older drivers I see on the road driving incompetently have always been bad drivers. Lifetime licenses could be issued tomorrow and the situation would not change. Human nature is such that a domestic issue can arise the day after issue and a gun can come into play.
