I went to Parham near Pulborough West Sussex, Sussex Country Fair last weekend 21 June. I have been a few times over the years and the show has always been a worthwhile day out for all the family, the show has just about everything connected with country life past and present, or at least it did have in past years, I have to say this year’s show in my view was a total waste of my time and money, I took my two daughters with me, we paid our £11 entry fee each and as we walked down the hill towards the venue all said virtually together where is everything, I counted 11 fast food counters, 4 of which were lined up along side each other, we saw one steam tractor. The rest of the stores were grossly over pricing there wears. In past years walking round the stores took quite some time a couple of hours, well we walked round the whole thing twice in an hour. Very poor show we left vowing never to return within an hour and half.

The forecast for Sunday 17 May was for our region rain in the morning clearing to then give showers some heavy, when I picked my mate up it was pouring, we drove the 20 miles to our shoot, drove around the estate found the field that had just been sown with maze and was being hit by corvids, we broke out the flasks and waited for the rain to stop, which it did in about an hour, we then spent half an hour or so setting up decoys and some deadys, put the flapper out and sat back waiting expectantly. We sat there for about 2 hours and came away flushed with our successful shooting of a massive total 4 corvids, another red letter day to add to my diary of successes

Yes not all about shooting, we were sitting one afternoon in my Rangy in a clearing in the woods, when a rabbit came into the clearing closely followed by a weasel, now you would think rabbit that can out run a weasel , but the rabbit I can only think was so scared it just couldn’t move and as you say the weasel just took it and although the rabbit was twice it’s size it dragged it off, amazing.

I know what you are saying; we keep a very tight watch on our estate for these people and a good liaison with tenant farmers, and to date have managed to stamp it out.

Sounds like you’re getting the same shooting as me in Sussex, over the last say ten years for me there has been a marked change in woody habits certainly in my particular area, the winters are getting so much milder, ok we do get cold snaps but there just that snaps, pigeons are spending more feeding time in the woods beech mast can still be found here from last year, they do hit the rape but not as hard as they use to and nowhere near as consistently, I put it down to the fact that most farms in my area now have two crops wheat or rape.

We went shooting today that is me and Big June, when we get to the estate we drive all round it to keep up with what’s happening, takes about an hour or so to drive right round, anyway we pulled up by one field to see more Hairs than either of us has ever seen in one field before, there must have more than 25 + in a group, Jumping, Running, Boxing, we sat there amazed. We then drove to another part of the estate and encountered our first Mallard of the year with young, it’s not all about shooting Briliant.

The cartridge sounds like it may be what was called a 127 cartridge, anyway they can still be developed, my local guy develops pretty much anything, but unfortunately I’m near the southern coast of West Sussex, bit to far to walk. You should be able to find someone to develop it for you, there are companies on the internet that specialise

Firstly you know this phone was clapped out do you, before you start shooting your mouth off and accusing my daughter of being selfish and tight fisted; you should know all your facts. As to my terminating my friendship that is my decision and mine alone, I have to say if you were the person concerned my decision would be very easy. And yes the money was returned there was never any question about a refund.

I would be grateful for your answers, I have been agonising over this for months. I have a friend who I have known pretty much all my life, we have been close since childhood and I have regarded him more like a brother, we lost touch from the age of 18 until I was around 28 in that time he had married and so had I and both had small children anyway we renewed our friendship and began shooting and fishing together again, My friend has had a tough time over the years with family problems, a son who was a drug addict a wife who became and is alcohol dependent and many other problems more than your average family, through all this my friend has managed to keep his head where most would have gone under, I have helped him and his family in anyway I could beyond the call of friendship and more, backed him through anything, stood with him and his family as if they were my own and never asked or expected anything in return. About 8 or 9 months ago my daughter bought a new mobile so decided to sell her old phone, however the old phone had been dropped in the bath some months earlier but once dried worked fine, my friends youngest daughter 18 asked if she could buy the phone and as far as I’m concerned new the background to the phone, so all was well, about two weeks later I was helping my friends sister move house when my friends daughter turned up saying the phone would not now work ,because it had been water damaged, but had been told that in some circumstances it may be software related and if the phone were connected to the internet it may well work again, she asked me if I would try that and I agreed, however I had only had the phone a day when I received a phone from my friends son, ******* and blinding at me and saying I had intentionally tried to deceive his sister and give her ******** money back, I told him he was wrong without swearing and there was never any question that if the phone did not work she would get her money back, and that he should know me better than that, he continued to swear down the phone so I put it down. My friend new what had been said and had been going on, he telephoned me the next morning and apologized for him self, I broke ties with all his family as no other apology has ever been given, I told my friend that I would have nothing more to do with his family, but have continued to drive 12 miles to pick him up and 12 miles back out of my way to take him shooting, he does give me petrol money, but other than shooting I hear nothing from him. The shoot is mine and the feeling I am now experiencing is that it may be that the shooting is the only reason for contact. I am completely gutted and discussed with his family. What would you do bearing in mind that this friendship is now 35 years old.

I have been twice and they organise the event well, although traffic can be heavy it does move, I would plan to reach depending on your route either Midhurst or Petworth around 9 am and your router should be easy going all the way there.

I‘ve had a few 4x4s over the years, Landrovers are good if you don’t want comfort just the ability to get around, swb is like sitting on a roller skate but will do what you want, I gave then up and bought a Range rover has the comfort and to date has never been stuck, personally I think it is the perfect all-rounder.

Any 4x4 is only as good as it’s driver, I have seen a few people on shoots with there different types of 4x4s, shouting the odds about there 4x4 and how good it is and where it will go, then we set off and the first muddy field we come to and 4 out of five drivers lose it, like any tool if you don’t know how to use it your wasting your time. Range Rover for me.

I started shooting around 7 or 8 years age with an air rifle, I think it’s something you take up like any other interest, weather it be shooting or stamp collecting and that interest either grows or falls by the weigh side as you get older, most kids can’t sit still for more than a minute, patience grows with age. If your son shows an interest in shooting take him along, let him see what you have to do on a typical day out, my daughter wanted and nagged me for about a year before I was convinced she was truly interested, and after coming out with me for about 8 sessions realised it’s not all about shooting there are lot’s of other things that come into play on a day out, but she learned that she is not a shooter. However my shooting mate started to bring out his nephew as he showed interest , and the boy developed into a fair shooter.
