  1. get a grip soft lad. Not all staffies are "devil dogs". More cats are killed by lurchers or other terrier types than staffies. It is this knee jerk reaction that has killed off fox hunting, coursing than anything else. every year at this time, when parliament is in recess and the country has gone on holiday tales like this abound and it does annoy, most awfully, people whose devils dogs would not say boo to a goose. it is called in the press , the silly season for good reason! If you have a dog, please say which type and I am sure I would be able to find an incident in which the breed reacted irrationally. My devil dog has been used for years to help disabled children, both mentally and physically bond with animals and only yesterday we took her out with a group of autistic children for a countryside ramble that would not have been possible without the steadying influence of the dog. 3. Is there anything better than when, flipping round the cable channels you find an unwatched Top Gear. I did not even know that the TG v Germans episode existed. It really is up there with finding a tenner in the back pocket of jeans before washing or a couple of beers in the crisper drawer. Toptastic. Jim
  4. i am shooting on one of perm's next week ( wed or thursday) near tatton park. i cant guarantee the birds and if it is hoofing down or there is nothing about I will be leaving after a couple of hours. There is plenty of laid barley and they are also on the clover. Anyone interested mail me. JDF
  5. I have just landed a job in the jobcentre. i think we have a winner. Jim
  6. I went to a meeting on the advice of my doctor who was of the "give it a go, see how you feel persuasion" and my guns were seized for a week during my last renewal. That said I am in the garden at the mo drinking a lovely glass of St Etiene lager and feeling just fine. Ever so lightly toasted inside and out. JDF

  9. try an AA meeting if you are not sure. The getting in touch with the greater spirit is ab it freaky if like me you do not believe. One thing it will do however is make youy see if you are "ready" or not admit to alcoholism and want to change. I attended but realised that although I was drinking far,far too much I was not an alcy, merely a aman who liked getting drunk. BIG difference. If yo do attend though be warned that they sometimes have sense of humour failures . In one meeting a real middle class bloke who was the spit of Neighbours Harold Bishop stood up told the meeting that he bought a litre and a half of vodka, had the litre in the house and hid the half bottle in a bush at the bottom of the road and then when he was walking the dog he would swally the half. The local kids found out and starting nicking the vod. I stood up and said my drink problem started when a neighbour kept leaving a half bottle of vodka in a bush for me of an evening. Dead silence and dirty, dirty looks. I have not been back to taht meeting since. Had you had a few when you wrote the original post? Jim
  10. as everyone else has mentioned, dont try to cast too far and listen to your instructor. as on coarse fishing people always believe that the further you fish the better the chance is of a fish. NOT TRUE. it took me quite a while to cast properly so the earlier estimate of half an hour is in my cackhanded opinion grossly exaggerated. Set yourself months rather than days to become proficient and be prepared to become frustrated to the point of chucking your rod in the water. I have lost many flies, tangled every cast and once even cut my line in half when fishing on a a rock lined reservoir wall. Add into this making contact with a fish only to have your line knot up on the first eye and the cast break and a callous forming on the ball of your thumb. Then there is the fish mouthing your dry without taking the fly or preferring a fag dimp instead.Once all these little creases are ironed out ( and the fly has been picked out of your scalp) you will soon become addicted and realise that there is no better way to fish. Jim

  12. for the moolah it is great. dont fish full length and make sure you can rest it up either on your box or chair. barring flyfishing there is no better way. Jim

    black cats

i babysat my nephew today and told my sister that under no uncertain circumstances the cat must be out the house when I get back from the park. Now normally cats dont give the fear to the fish but this thing is half mountain lion and half the taloned washings from the devils big overly evil chilli cauldron from which jeffrey archer, germaine greer and jade goody were spawn. i entered the front room to my sisters house and the cat was sat sunbathing on the back of the sofa on which directly behind is a set of patio doors. On approaching the doors to let scumspawn out it started hissing and swinging. i opened the doors and the bleeding thing chased me out leaving me outside in the garden with my nephew in the car and the rain just coming in. Unthwarted I decided to apparoach from another tack and let myself in the front door, arming myself with cushions from my sisters study and decided to throw the cushions at the cat knocking it out of the still open patio door. Weeeelll. It started well, like knocking down tin cans at the fair, a couple of decent solid body blows had beelzepuss against the ropes when it obviously called upon the dark forces and disappeared behind the sofa. The possessed cat ran round the back of the sofas and attacked me! Eyes blasing and claws drawn it threw itself at me and although I am well over six feet and weigh in excess of 220 pounds i ran like a girl and ended spending the afternoon in the pub drinking tea. the cat has without laying a poisoned claw upon emasculated me. I really hate cats. I am planning an exorcism using silver no.6's jimdfish

Cheers for the reply gents. It is for a parking fine (£790). He knows he was an umpty in not paying immediately but apparently painters and decorators are as prone to the credit crunch as much as anyone. Jim

    bailiffs

  16. There have been some changes in the fish household and one of them is that I was made redundant in January. One positive outcome from this is that I have had more time to sit in the garden and watch the world go by and watch nature in all its finery. We have a very healthy sparrow population in my garden and I feel I have provided them with the perfect habitat by doing as little as possible in the garden. Bloody good excuse and I am sticking to it.Posted is a pic of the first fledgling sparrow to fall out of my eaves and onto the fence panel. Also posted is the solution to the conundrum; Where have all the pigeons gone. In my flamin' garden thats where!
  17. I must agree with Mung and Kdub. A dog is a dog. Harsh, maybe? it happens every year and then the dog turns up safe. JDF

    DWP and job

i have recieved a letter in the post stating that I have been successful in an interview and pending CRB checks ( no probs. I have FAC) job history and references and will have work. Question is, how much stock will the DWP put in a job reference and how negative can an employer be? What questions do they ask of previous employers? I did not leave under a cloud but was made redundant Ta jim
