  1. top end gun making, purdey, holland and holland, rigby etc, foreign aid, no one else dishes it out quite like we do mikee
  2. 4 bore shotgun .44 magnum handgun .50 rifle the 44mag had by far the most kick mikee
  3. for fox/rabbit and hare the hornet would take some beating as long as youre sensible with the fox ranges, say max 150yds mikee
  4. Alex are you an AW for DSC2, that would be handy mikee
  5. ive got an 8x50 swaro on my 243, with a big fat reticle which stand out even at night under the moon, cant really see the need for variable mag scopes on a stalking/foxing rifle where the target is reasonably large, ive shot foxes out to about 350yds with my fixed mag, my advise would be to get better glass and less fiddly bits for your hard earned mikee
  6. sunday 21st ok for me mikee
  7. I'm very interested, is the £160 a day for 1 beast or as many cull beasts as are encountered in the day, I'm not interested in trophies just good stalking and a nice day out, got open FAC, .243, DSC1 and a new batch of sierra game king home loads also member of BASC and BDS, fully insured mikee
  8. I'M IN, DONT MIND WHERE OR WHEN MIKEE
  9. I would think that any custon rifle builder would have a selection of sizes, just need to fina a rifle builder in your area, or get one machined and buy a pot of valve grinding paste good luck mikee
  10. can you get your hands on one of those scope ring lapping tools mikee
  11. 1m² = 60 bricks or 10 blocks, you will need enough for about 13.5m² allowing for a door of about 2.0m² so thats just over 800 bricks or about 140 blocks for a shed that is 2m tall mikee
  12. i took the new superformance ammo out for a zero check this afternoon, they do shoot very accurately abd do seem to be a good bit quicker from the fizz as they headed off down range, it was very windy thsi afternoon and the only safe direction to shoot out to 150yds was at 90 degrees to the wind so in the end shot them at 60yds with the wind on my back, got a 4 shot group that i could cover with a 20p coin, so that should also give zero again at about 150yds. which is good enough for me there were no flat primers or sticky bolt issues so the extra velocity doesnt seem to create unsafe pressures, hopefully I will get a shot at a munty or two tomorrow so then I will find out how the bullet performs mikee
  13. its designed to be built out of mostly 100x50 and fixed together with those wood screw bolt things that you drive in with a battery drill with a socket not screw driver, 100x25 panelling around the top but fence panels might do aswell, i reckon you would see change out of £200 and if treated with a liberal dose of creosote would last for years, its a deluxe model with a shelf all round the outside top edge for resting the bipod on and has corner posts so a camo net can be draped over the top and a swivel seat in the middle, i know how you essex boys like a bit of luxury mikee
  14. Mungler this is your lucky day, i have a CAD drawing of a high seat exactly like the pics you posted, if you can find a way to open aN autocad 2004 drawing you are more than welcome to it, just need an email address and its yours, pm me I was bored one evening and saw a similar thing on the stalking directory and thought i could draw a better one, its sectionl and just needs to be screwed together at your chosen location, its all dimensioned and angles etc shown. mikee
  15. norfolk for one i see guys the other side of the river shooting ducks on sunday but i cant mikee
  16. I cant really see the point either, its just what they had in the shop, i dont know much about SST bullets as ive never used them before but the guy insisted they were a hunting type ballistic tip not a varmint type, if i'd had more time i would have gone somewhere else to get my usual 100gn soft points, like you said if you want faster than 243 then 25-06 or 243AI, they might be superb but until ive used them i cant say, fingers crossed mikee
  17. just been to the local gun shop to get some 243 ammo, i wanted hornady 100gn soft points but they had sold out so he sold me a box of 95gn SST, when i checked the box theyt were the superformance loads, i'm off stalking either tomorrow or sunday morning so will post my findings mikee
  18. My ex missus always used to nag about the dogs on the sofa, I told her that when she dived into a cold river to get a duck or ran bare foot across a rape stubble to get a pigeo she would be allowed on the furniture aswell mikee
  19. Some farmers just seem to have toooo much time on their hands mikee
  20. I must confess, i thought the wobbly head bird was hot, id be in there like a rat up a drain pipe, mikee
  21. if you broke your gun would you glue it back together or take it to the gun shop and pay to get it fixed, why should the dog be treated any different, and the gun dont bleed mikee
  22. there are more deer of every uk species shot each year with the 243 than any other calibre, with a properly constructed bullet and correct shot placement it will kill them all, the idea is to get close to the deer and humanely kill it not snipe at them from the next hill, in northern ireland from (i think) mid 70's to mid 90's 22cf was all that was allowed and im sure thousands of red and sika were shot quite satisfactorily, meat damage shouldnt really be a consideration, humanely killed is all you should be worrying about, just eat round the hole mikee
  23. its how clay shooting started, it was done just like that in the uk until the early 1900's, when it was banned abroard they came up with helice as a substitute mikee
